02/01/2000 - VirtualBoy Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

VirtualBoy has been updated! Here is the post

"I finally got the init code from Mario Tennis into my demo program. It helped me solve the problems with OBJ's but not the fact that the VB skips over the controller code. Now I will have to disassemble the display interrupt vector to see if that solves the troubles. ChrisFE16 posted a summary of the Nintendo Power magazines pertaining to the VB on the VB-Message Board, many thanks for that. Multimedia 1.0 is selling a copy of Insmouse Mansion for $300, its a little expensive for my taste but if you have the funds..."

02/03/2000 - mIRC version 5.7 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

mIRC version 5.7 has been released!! Here is what's new

  • A new, fresher interface, cute buttons - brighter colors!
  • Support for the Microsoft Agent has been added to the 32 bit version of mIRC under Windows95 or greater. An agent is an animated character that can speak text and perform actions. With a little fiddling and tweaking you will be able to have this agent speak to you, warn you about things happening on IRC, or even read-up entire discussions to you! See http://www.mirc.co.uk/agents.html for more info. Also, if you have Speech Recognition software installed, mIRC can be made to listen to voice commands!
  • A network listbox has been added to the connect dialog. You can now easily select a network and then quickly select the desired server within that group of servers. By default a selection of all random servers is shown. It is now also possible to specify a range in the Ports settings of an IRC server, eg. 6660-6669. This will spread the load on the IRC servers ports a lot more, thus giving faster access!
  • The mIRC Installer now sets up support for .chat files in your registry file. Tooo many new users had difficulties in setting this up, we do it for you now :)
  • You can now right-click on the alias, popup, remote and DCC toolbar buttons to pop up the new Quick Access menus. This will improve access to frequently used settings a lot.
  • The channel central dialog (/channel) now uses a tabbed dialog to accomodate support for the new +e (ban exeption) and +I (invites) channel modes as found on IRCnet. With the new 'Display' tab in this dialog you can redirect or disable all sorts of channel event messages. This allows you to see the join, part, quit, mode and other messages exactly where you want them, or not at all!
  • Yiihoooo - you can now completely disable the "ping? pong!" messages in the File/Options/IRC dialog.
  • mIRC now allows you to select a font script for a font in the font dialog. This is needed to support arabic, cyrillic and chinese characters. People who speak these languages will understand how this works :)
  • When you're DCC Sending a lot you might like the new option that sets the "max cps per user" in the File/Options/DCC/Fserve dialog. This allows you to limit the send speed used by a DCC Send to a user in a Fileserver, but is also applied to /dcc sends initiated in a remote script.
  • We changed the Identd server behaviour back to how it worked before version 5.61. Not all IRC servers liked the (correctly implemented) new communication and considered you un-idented.
  • Various other small changes have been made; you can automatically sort incoming files by nickname into folders, restart logfiles per day, week or month, and set a completely custom timestamp format for all messages, logs, etc.
  • Really lots and lots of scripting things have been added. A bulkload of Identifiers, Dialog improvements and a lot more. Dear Scripters; READ the versions.txt included with the new mIRC for all info and crawl through the help file for the details. Watch out for the new %helper mode, it is easily confused with variables since % is also the %variable prefix! Enjoy the support for while loops that has been added. (This repeats a loop while some expression is true) Multiple while loops can be embedded. You can use /break to break out of the current loop. You can also use the /continue command to jump to the beginning of the loop. Have fun! Oh, and beware of old scripts; We finally removed support for the very old $parm and *N identifier format!
Please download it from mIRC's official website.

    title screen!). [Vernon C. Brooks]

These drivers have new or improved SOUND:
    -----------------------------------------

    - Fixed sound in Sindbad Mystery. [Zsolt Vasvari]

    Changes to the main program:
    ----------------------------

    - Added vector intensity control to the On Screen Display (for vector games).
    [Mathis Rosenhauer]

    - Unified keyboard and joystick interface, now they are all assigned in the

    - [DOS] MMX optimized video blitting functions. [Bernd Wiebelt]

    Source:
    -------

    - The transition to the GAME() macro is complete. struct GameDriver must no
longer be used. Alro removed the old ROM_REGION() and ROM_REGION_DISPOSE()
macros, and renamed ROM_REGIONX() to ROM_REGION().

    - The functionality of osd_skip_this_frame() is now more strictly defined (see
osdepend.h). Ports not complying with that must be updated, otherwise
problems with certain drivers might arise.

    - mixer.c now does all sound mixing, generating one single sample stream,
played using the new osd_XXX_audio_stream() functions.
All other OS dependant sample functions (osd_play_sample() etc.) have been
removed. This should standardize the sound output across ports, and allow
porters to write much cleaner sound code. [Aaron Giles]

    - Removed some obsolete fields from struct GameOptions. "

It looks like Singapore has lifted the Half-Life Ban! Where is a part of their article

"It's a very happy Chinese New Year for gamers and relieved LAN center owners, as the ban on Half-Life and its expansion pack, Opposing Force, has just been lifted.

The Films and Publications Department had originally banned Half-Life and Half-Life: Opposing Force last Monday on concerns that children were being exposed to excessively violent images in the games. However, following feedback from the public, the Ministry of Information and the Arts (MITA) subsequently referred the case to the Films Appeal Committee (FAC), which has since decided to lift the ban. 02/04/2000 - Mac1964 version .4.5 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Mac1964 version .4.5 is released! Here is what is new

Emulation Improvements:

  • - overall emulation is 10-20% faster from a number of changes, including reworked branch mechanisms, optimizations for certain opcode situations, a smarter fpu and optimized core loop
  • - the caching mechanisms were reworked to use significantly less memory (we're talking a couple megabytes for complex code)
  • - virtual addressing is faster and smarter
  • - the cpu emulation is quite a bit more fault tolerant -- this may actually be bad, because people don't know things are going horribly wrong, even as the emulation keeps chugging along! should help with compatibility
  • - added 'Microcode 2' support for graphics -- hopefully someone will find it useful
Interface Improvements:
  • - all the window and fullscreen code was ripped out and redone with compatibility in mind -- things should be quite a bit better for Voodoo users or anyone with more than one monitor
  • - the controller code was embarrassing -- it's been replaced with what it should have been in the first place. get out your adaptoid or gamepad pro and you're set to go
  • - the debugger has been redone to use fewer windows and give more information
  • - tons of minor tweaks to things that bothered nobody but me
Bugs Fixed:
  • - the timing code was horribly broken -- like a bad kid, not only was it not timing, it was running around causing trouble -- it's fixed
  • - rooted around fixing other miscellaneous badness
Please download it from our N64 Emu Section. Thanks goes to Martin from Emulation64 for the E-mail.

02/05/2000 - Ogre Battle 1.02 [Posted by che]

Finally! I updated an editor =Þ. The only thing new in 1.02 is it supports "classes" that I don't have listed.

I also made a Pokémon Gold Editor. I made it like a week ago, but I haven't put it on my page yet. It is for the emulator Rew, not HelloGB. The reason I didn't put it up was because the translated version of Pokémon Gold won't even run with Rew or HelloGB. It only works with Smygb for some reason.

02/05/2000 - RockNES Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

RockNES site has been updated with some news

"A lot of stuff were optimized, but due the sound improvements (I guess), the emulation is a bit slow right now. The sound output is much better, but no envelope (fade in/out) or frequency sweep (Mario jump) yet, but hopefully that “long notes” problem was fixed. There´s an unknown problem with vblank/nmi scanline hit, different settings causes some games to work and others to hang, probably a CPU bug. No release date ´cause I would like to add some stuff requested in the GUI.

This is hot: do you know the game Mortal Kombat 3 Special 56 People (pirate)? Well, did you know there is ANOTHER game (hidden)? Yes, a “Mortal Kombat II Special” in the same ROM. It´s not a joke or ROM hack."

02/07/2000 - MESS version .36b16 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

MESS version .36b16 is released! Here is what is new

New drivers supported (in no particular order):

  • a400, a400pal (16K RAM only) [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • spectrum plus3 [Kev Thacker]
  • a800pal [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • sys80 [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • c364, c64gs, sx64 [Peter Trauner]
  • ti99_4e, ti99_4ae [Raphael Nabet]
These drivers have improved GRAPHICS:
  • Adventurevision LED flicker added [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • Palette colors for Vtech2 series of system drivers fixed. [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • Amstrad mode 2 fix [Kev Thacker]
  • PMODE 4 artifact colors in the CoCo drivers. The COCO had a black and white video mode that actually had two more colors in there that were created because the TV couldn't actually handle the high resolution. These colors would not appear on some monitors, and when they did appear, they would sometimes switch back and forth. Added a "dip switch" to the driver to control how these artifact colors are displayed, if at all. [Nate Woods]
  • CoCo 3 CMP/RGB color sets - the CoCo 3 had different color sets depending on whether a composite monitor/tv was used, or whether an RGB monitor was used. Now the CoCo 3 driver can emulate either display, and this is controlled from another dip switch. [Nate Woods]
  • Apple2 driver changed to use 'normalized' character and graphics layout. The scanlines are now done by the hosts video code. [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • atari pallette changes [Julian Eggebrecht, Juergen Buchmueller]
  • atari video timing fixed! [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • fixed dirty char update in Spectrum driver [Kev Thacker]
These drivers have new or improved SOUND:
  • Atari Pokey static bug fixed [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • Jupiter driver changed to use the DAC sound driver. [Paul Daniels]
  • setup buzzer sound for Spectrum and +3 [Kev Thacker]
Other drivers changes:
  • Atari "mega disk" supported (80 Track HD floppies) [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • Wd179x disk access update. The correct sector size is now calculated for the nec765 real FDD access. Now it is calculated from sector size. Loading from real disc works on Enterprise emulator. [Kev Thacker]
  • Updates to Cgenie, Trs80 and ti99_4a due to wd179x update. [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • Far better disk support in the COCO drivers. [Paul Burgin, Stewart Orchard, Nate Woods]
  • Fixed cartridge banking bug in the a800 driver. BASIC.ROM can be loaded again [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • void via_set_clock(int which, int clock); added to 6522via.c. This can be called after via_config() to change the clock, otherwise the clock speed of CPU1 is used. [Mathis Rosenhauer]
  • added support to load some .Z80 type snapshots in the spectrum driver. (48k only supported at this time) [Kev Thacker]
  • Enterprise driver working with disc images or real discs and should work properly with new IO structures. [Kev Thacker]
  • huge MSX update, which includes rom mapper emulation for nearly all type of cartridges (including saving sram as MEMCARD), SIMPL emulation, fixed interrupt emulation, added key-click emulation, and small bugfixes / rewrites! [Sean Young]
  • ti99 update [Raphael Nabet]
Changes to the main program:
  • [-listextensions] now outputs all device/extensions for the system driver [Ben Bruscella]
  • using Z80 core v2.6 [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • added the M65SC02 and M65CE02 CPU cores [Peter Trauner]
Source:
  • The core is based on MAME 0.36b16. This incorporates all features of the update to this core. [MAME team]
  • Fixed a bug in the I8039 core that caused the destructed score display in the adventurevision system driver [Juergen Buchmueller]
Other:
  • Extensive CRC updates [Chris Henry, Gerardo Jorrin, Peter Trauner] SysInfo.dat documentation update [Chris Henry, Kev Thacker, Raphael Nabet] Please send all CRC/sysinfo file contributions to Chris Henry. (battlepriest@hotmail.com).
  • added CRC's for the cpc464, cpc664, kc85_4 and Spectrum+3 roms [Kev Thacker]
Please pick it up from our Multi-Console Emu Section.

My friend Scott Vieth, SAV2880 on IRC has released a new Sega CD Release! Here is the E-mail post he sent me

I've added a new game to Sega CD Power, Dark Wizard. It's a nice
hard-to-find RPG with some great cinematics. It's also a straight BIN / CUE
rip, so while it's big, you will get the great sound quality you'd expect

  • The maximum number of files per directory has been increased back up to 3500.
  • Fixed a bug where if NesToy began a scan before midnight, but finished after midnight, the time it took would display incorrectly at the end of the scan. if (-q) is used in conjunction with (-i), NesToy will work in quiet mode, but will display information on any ROMs that need repairing or renaming.
  • Added the [o] option to (-q). This will suppress output to the output file as well.
  • Removed the alternate (-quiet) option. Only (-q) works now.

Pretendo's WIP Has been updated!

"The version number will be 0.06 (probably) and there's quite a nice amount of changes, I suppose I can list a few. First is sound. We've got a preliminary sound driver going right now, utilizing DirectSound. (not SEAL like I may have mentioned earlier) Keep in mind, it's preliminary, so don't expect it to sound like NESten or Jnes or whatever. This version is a LOT more stable than previous... so you should not get anymore nasty GPF errors. Compatiblity is up somewhat, and a bunch more mappers are suppported. There's lots more new, but you'll have to wait and see... Also, the BeOS and Linux ports are in the works :). "

02/09/2000 - RS' Place Updated! [Posted by DarkMazda]

RS' place has been updated with some news that he needs help with

"Just to clear up a few rumors floating around... I'm currently working on several Neo-Geo projects... but at this point, I will only discuss 2 of them publically. Reasoning? Because I am going to need some serious help on them! A 3rd is strictly private at this moment in time... those who know are supposed to- obviously!

No, I don't need financial help with these 2... but rather I need some "assistance" from a reverse-programming engineer (you know, kinda like the ones "notorious" in the WAREZ scene) to help me decrypt some encrypted GFX ROMs properly... as both carts/dumps are heavily protected with no known/available bootlegs. =(

As soon as they are decrypted, I will release the dumps in FULL via GeoShock... but not before as I don't want a million lam3rs cluttering up the message boards as well as my e-mail box with "This game won't play... blah, blah, wah, wah!" So, if you (or somebody you know) can fill the position, then please e-mail me and so we ALL can enjoy... Prehistoric Isles 2 and Mushashi Ganryuki (Ganryu).

    That's all for now peeps...

    RS ^__^"
Please visit RS' Place. Thanks goes to Opi from EmuCamp for the news.

02/10/2000 - EmuDX problem :~( [Posted by DarkMazda]
It looks like Mike from EmuDX has a problem :( Here is the post that JoseQ posted on EmuViews about EmuDX

"On a very sad note, Mike Green, author of EmuDX, had a hard drive accident today in which he lost the EmuDX development source tree. While still having backups, the EmuDX32 efforts were completely lost and the author has been left with no desire to continue pursuing that route after so much effort is lost. (I know the feeling exactly, I've seen this before, also on my development tree... If you're thinking of e-mailing Mike and asking if he had more recent backups, don't. He's had that question asked too many times already. He had some, but they're no good. It's definitely a set-back for all EmuDX development, but not a critical hit. Development will continue to happen and we shall see more EmuDX news very soon. Stay tuned... "
Very Very Sad :( Please visit EmuDX website and their host EmuViews.

'Connectix Virtual Game Station is the award-winning software that enables many popular PlayStation® games to run on G3 or G4 Macintosh computers (including iBook and iMac) and soon on Pentium II Windows PCs. Sony brought suit to suspend sale of the product claiming copyright infringement and tarnishment of the PlayStation¨ name and other marks. Based on these claims, in 1999 a U.S. District Court temporarily blocked further shipments of the Macintosh version and the release of a Windows version. Connectix has won the appeal at the Federal appellate level on all counts and may now resume distribution and sale of the products. '

Potential problems with the PlayStation 2's ability to play original PlayStation games was first mooted by Japanese gaming publisher Jiji Press. It claimed some games don't work with the new console's video system. "

02/13/2000 - New UltraHLE screenshots! [Posted by DarkMazda]

RealityMan posted 9 Screenshots of UltraHLE 1.5! Here is the post

"Many people have asked about how the development of UltraHLE 1.5.0 is going. Well, things are going extremely well indeed. As you may or may not know, the first release of UltraHLE was designed specifically for Glide which is found on 3DFX Voodoo based graphics chipsets. Well, one of the many aims for the upcoming release was to port the Glide subsystem to OpenGL so that a great many more people can enjoy playing their favorite games on UltraHLE.

The OpenGL development is now at a stage where both 2D/3D wireframe and filled poly's are working well and all the only major bit of code to finish is the texture code. To give you an idea of where the development is at I have provided 9 screenshots below, click on the smaller image for a full size image. Oh and yes, UltraHLE finally runs in a window (and fast too :))....."
