07/02/2000 - DarcNES DOS Page Update! [Posted by DarkMazda]

DarcNES(Dos) Page has been updated with some news

"Just a quick update to let you all know the status of the project. Well, the past week has been totally unproductive, due to a heavy flu I've got. The last 3 days have been specially hard, I could barelly get up from the bed, but I'm recovering now. Nyef released a new version of DarcNES, but it breakes compatibility with the Allegro, GTK+ and SVGALib versions again. This won't affect the Allegro version (for now), but Nyef has already given me some hints on how to fix the possible problems that could arise, and I'll work on them as necessary. Well, it's time to take my medicines, bye! "
Please visit DarcNES website for more info :)

07/02/2000 - Mimic Update! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Mimic website has been updated with some news

"Once I realised it was working (read not crashing), I quickly looked for some new ROMset to emulate, and got severely sidetracked by Solomon's Key. An old gem I used to play on my C64, only now in the original arcade form!!! The sprite colors need a bit of fiddling with, and then its ready for release. I also made the HWC interprettor free graphics ROM memory as it went and not just at the end. The result of this is a lower memory requirement."

07/04/2000 - 1964 version 0.5.0 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

1964(n64 emu) version 0.5.0 has been released! Here is what is new in this new release

  • Plugins are now fully configurable from the GUI.
  • The system's user interface is very similar to PsemuPro's plugin system. It was inspired by PsemuPro, but the dll specs are different. As other N64 emulators become compatible to this system, you can simply drop the new plugin dlls into your "Plugin" subfolder. In the future, you can expect to see a lot of plugins to choose from :).
  • Currently, only the 1964 video plugins are to zilmar's plugin specifications. Input and audio still use 1964 specs but will be converted to the new specs soon.
  • Users can switch to NooTe_D3D from GUI. The Direct3D is still early in dev, so expect gfx issues. However, NooTe_D3D has several options including:
  • Full Screen
  • Resolution Switching
  • The return of cfb. If you wish to enable VI, disable HLE, and vice-versa.
  • More; see NooTe_D3D.txt for more info
  • A bonus game! CoinSweeperGL by Emul8or included. See coinsweep.txt in bonus subfolder for more info.
You like what you see? Please download 1964 from our N64 Emu Section.

Brute Force website has been updated with some news

"Sorry for a lack of an update but our web man Brad has been rather busy and is going on holiday for two whole weeks, lucky him eh!

A big thanks to Brettster from our forums btw as he is sending me a copy of the KI2 hard drive and roms through the post, he had to send me them as i havent got the equiptment to dump the roms or hd off of my machines. so we should have a working KI2 emulator aswell.

Onto other things we hope to make a chat room with the co-operation of a person who only likes to be reffered to KI2, strange!?!

also if anybody has a hex viewer/editor for n64 or arcade roms let us know at the email address below as im trying to rip images out at the moment but there not in the right colours. I hope to put them up in the downloads section when i can rip them out properly. also exspect to see me hanging around irc a lot as ive just got my freeserve unlimited time dialler through, oh and i've heard that KIGold will work in the next version of Nemu64, GREAT :-)

also remember to keep sending mail to us as the pictures have been great i hope to put them up soon too, and the suggestions have been good too i.e KI internet play and even make a KI3, although we dont have the time or even want to as we know that only the gaming gods at RARE could do KI Justice. and i am looking into how the N64 works (maybe i'l ask RealityMan or the Nemu64 team) so i can bring KI1 & 2 to the n64 where it is supposed to be ;-) so if you have any info on the N64 or anything else send it to KI_Suggestions@ultratechhq.freeserve.co.uk"
please visit the Brute Force website for more info. Thanks goes to GlUcOsE for the E-mail.

07/07/2000 - AdriPSX Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

AdriPSX website has been updated with a new design and more! Here is the post

"Well, like we already announced it two weeks ago, here is the re-designed AdriPSX page. A special thanks for this new design goes out to Zico, who actually did a really cool job. Most sections are already ported and will be updated to match with AdriPSX's current status within the next week.

As for the progress news, AdriPSX is progressing quite nicely, commercial games are already running again. Roor also mentioned that the Linux version runs pretty good after some problems at the beginning.

MDEC movies are also playing, although there're still some bugs left. By getting MDEC movies working, compatibility actually increased a lot (for example games like FF7 run now). Speed wise, AdriPSX became a bit slower, that's because of the many fixed bugs in image displaying. This also caused AdriPSX to change the PC specs : From now on, it won't run on any PC's without MMX (that means it works on Pentium Pro, P2/P3, AMD K6-2/K6-3 etc.) - On the good side, the new version has less problems with GFX cards not supporting a certain VESA standart.

Sounds amazing, doesn't it ? Well, Roor certainly did a great job. And to proove this, he sent me 24 screenshots from 14 games which I, of course, directly placed in the screenshots section, which can be found here. Screenshots from games like FF7, Alundra and Speed Racer can be found there, so I highly suggest you to check it out now !

As for a release date, we don't know yet when this new version will be out ... Maybe in a month, maybe later ... We can't really tell you, so please don't bug us for details."
Congrats Zico on making another kick ass looking website! Please visit AdriPSX website to see it :)

07/07/2000 - Mimic UPdates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Mimic website has been updated with some news! Here is the post

"Added support for a second button for player 1. Also, if the current romset uses colors that are being used in the background, the background is removed to avoid having technicolor diarhea.
Solomon's Key has two interesting bugs: 1) In the intro to the first level there is an extra little display of the stars. 2) When you complete the level, the game resets!!!
This could be bringing me one step closer to finding that last remaining bug in the Z80 core.
I was hoping to do a release today, but I will endevour to get Solomon's Key working first... maybe tommorow or on the weekend...stay tuned.
Anybody with Sound Blaster/Adlib programming knowledge: PLEASE get in contact. I need more info on creating FM sound NOT samples. "

Hu-Go website has been updated with some news!

"Well, this time, it will feature some real new stuff :) First, the relative research asked by some cheaters ^^ It will be way easier to find values and such for finishing hard games. And now, you'll have the ability to use REAL cd track to fake track in .hcd. Well, this is a bit confusing but in fact, that's easy. Instead of telling hu-go! the name of the file used to fake a track, such as track03.mp3 for track 3 or such, you can ask hu-go! to use the 5th track of the cd in your second cd drive to fake it, etc... This mean you'll easily be able to play translated games, just by playing the translated iso AND asking the music to be played from the cd, exactly as if you were playing the real CD game. On another hand, you can use the code track from the cd but with music coming from mp3, or even change the order of the audio tracks !!! I hadn't time to test it extensively but it has worked prefectly for every test I did (at least all mentioned above)."
Please visit Hu-Go website for more info on this emulator :)

07/10/2000 - Snes9x version 1.30b1 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Snes9x(Windows9x SNES Emu) version 1.30b1 has been released! Here is a big list of whats new

  • - The Windows auto-frame skip code was broken - badly. It didn't re-sync a timer value with timer events being generated, causing Snes9x to deliberately stop and wait for an event when it didn't need to, slowing down the overall emulation speed and increasing the number of frames skipped.
  • - Improved the Windows cheat search dialog - its now possible to compare against a value and more comparison functions are available.
  • - Finally worked out why Voodoo 3 support was so buggy in Snes9x - the Voodoo 3 card generates a WM_DISPLAYCHANGE message when switching to Voodoo mode (the Voodoo 1 and 2 cards don't); Snes9x thought that some other application had changed the screen depth or resolution and tried to adjust its window to match - triggering another WM_DISPLAYCHANGE message. No idea how the code worked at all; it must have been only by chance and very dependant on the driver version you were using!
  • - Implemented Netplay on the Windows port - but its buggy as hell. I seem to be having major Windows multi-threading problems. Comments I've seen seem to suggest that Windows 95/98 don't implement true multi-threading; hmmm...
  • - Not happy with the current Netplay, so I scrapped it and tried again; the protocol is much improved and not using select to control game timing seems to have removed lots of the threading-type problems I was having.
  • - Attempted to switch to just using Borland's C++ Builder to build the Windows port - and failed, again. Although C++ Builder can build Snes9x from sources, it can't then link in the asm CPU cores. I had hoped Borland might have fixed this with their latest release - they haven't.
  • - Several attempts to get Anti Resonance's super-fast sound CPU and sound DSP code working in Snes9x, but all failed. Part of the problem was his code was written using TASM and the object files it generated would only work under Windows - but all my SNES debugging code was in the Linux port. Anti' fixed that, and I then had some success getting his code working, but its just too unstable at the moment for a main-stream release.
  • - Included an option to use Anti Resonance's alternate sample decoding routine; it can approximate the wind and noise sound effects heard in several Square Soft games.
  • - Thanks to Lindsey Dubb for the mode 7 bi-linear filtering code - it generates a nice smooth image when a game scales the screen using the SNES' mode 7, but you'll a fast machine if you don't want the frame rate to drop.
  • - Thanks again to Lindsey Dubb, he improved the colour addition/subtraction subtraction routines - they are just a little slower but now mostly perform full 15-bit precision addition and subtraction rather than the previous 13-bits of precision. Many more colour shades can be seen - look at the improved shading on the Mario Kart or F-Zero track for example.
  • - Added a reverse stereo option, for people with sound cards that swap the two channels.
  • - Added a sound config dialog to the Windows port - now you can access extra sound options that have always been there, but just no GUI interface to access them.
  • - Fixed the 32-bit windowed support on the Windows port.
  • - Adjusted the NMI timing by a few microseconds to get Metal Warriors working again.
  • - Added a few more sound playback rate choices. Most modern sound cards allow any value to be used from a large range, rather than just a select few, may be I ought to add text field so you could just type a value in?
  • - Used Factory Setup 4 to build a new installer package for the Windows port - just shipping a zip file was confusing novice users and many (mostly AOL users) seemed to have an odd program mapped to .zip files, further confusing the issue.
  • - Added a fast forward key (Tab).
Please download Snes9x from our SNES Emu Section I personally tried out the Snes9x 1.30b1 and I'm pretty impressed!! The Net play did not work for me, with me trying with couple of people in IRC #Rareroms. We got it to send roms to each other but when we try to play a game, it gave us a "SRAM" error. but its still worth a shot! Thanks goes to Gangis on IRC for Msging me the news :D

Arcade Flyers has released their MAME Pack #21! Here is the post

    "It's been a while but here's our next MAME-PACK.
Pack #21 has 29 new images and 18 replaced ones.
Bringing us to 1075 images in total (hmm, that's almost as much as MAME has originals ;)
On popular demand the (huge) flyers.zip file is also updated. Please remember... this file is almost 40Mb!

Further on... we're planning to re-pack the packs (sounds kind of funny).
Meaning, that we're going to store all the 21 packs in 10 new (bigger) packages.
This way we get rid of the replaced images that are stored in the old packs.
So please get up-to-date because after re-packaging there's no way to upgrade your old packs in the right order. Meaning you have to re-download all the new packs again!

That's it for now, eeehh, well, expect another Flyer Database update one of these days ;)

    Ciao4Now, Xray1"

07/12/2000 - Super Jukebox version 2.5 has been released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Super Jukebox version 2.5 has been released! Here is a list of whats new

  • Changed all the time formats used in the program and the playlists from plain seconds to d:h:m:s, where d is days, h is hours, m is minutes and s is seconds. Note that only the smallest field greater than 0 and all fields beneath it are listed.
  • Now displaying the name of the currently playing song in the program title bar.
  • Fixed a slight problem where whenever a song started to play the wave out volume was being reset to the value it was at when Super Jukebox was started.
  • Made it possible to move and resize the list views and the buttons interactively, place the mouse cursor at the top or left edge of one of the list views or the buttons until you see the double pointed resizing cursor and then drag the mouse to move them, or place the mouse cursor at the bottom or right edges to resize them.
  • Added an option to allow Super Jukebox to automatically load the last opened playlist and start playing the first song.
  • Changed the minimum allowed length from ・ to 0, now 0 means infinite, I suppose that makes more sense than ・.
  • Added an option to allow Super Jukebox to automatically adjust the size of the playlist columns to fit the widest text string in that column, this is actually a very useful feature.
  • Now opening playlist files in binary mode instead of text, some playlist files out there only have a linefeed at the end of a line and no carriage-return, which confused Super Jukebox, now it痴 fixed.
  • Made the uninstall program able to run on systems with Shell32.dll files of version less than 4.71.
  • As always several other various cleanups.
Please download Super Jukebox, which is a SPC Player from our SPC Players Section.

07/14/2000 - MAMECE Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

MAMECE website has been updated with some news

"Work has progressed on the Z80 cpu optimization. I'm getting some flakiness, however in Galaga. I've implemented a quick and dirty regression testing scheme to find out what's going on, so I should be able to track it down. I coded some of the VCODE layer, but it's certainly far away from working yet.

I am waiting to get my new E-115 and the iPaq I ordered from EggHead. I have the CE 3.0 tools on CD, but don't have anything to use them on yet. Since my internet changed.. I haven't been able to active sync with my E-105 to test the new CPU code with the Ethernet flash card.. which makes things go a little slowly.

Just to let you know.. I'm currently working 7 days a week to finish off the core of the new system we're implementing at work, so work on the new CPU core is rather slow right now. We did hire a few new programmers to help out lately, so hopefully we can get through that backlog, and I can get my weekends back!"

07/15/2000 - TRWIN Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

TR(True REality) Win website has been updated with some news

"TRWin2.36 was released to testers and found to be ok, with a couple of issues that needed to be resolved. TRWin2.37 was then released to testers to see if those problems were resolved. For some strange reason, 2.37 crashed after opening the display window for any rom on the tester's puters... but not on my puter. So i've no idea what the problems is. So... 2.36 was to be released instead. However, slacka didn't get it posted, he is now out of town and my copy is gone. So when slacka comes back he should be posting 2.36. I probably will not be working on the strange bug in 2.37 as i've already moved on to working on the plugin system and a new gfx code. I doubt there will be anything released from this new effort until the end of the summer, as this is not an 'update' but really a complete rewrite of the gfx and cpu core."
Please visit the TRWin website for more info.

07/15/2000 - DarcNES DOS website Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

DarcNES(Multi Console Emu) DOS port website has been updated with some news

"Well, things have gotten a little out of control, and there will be no release on July 17, as I thought. I've spent a LOT of time preparing some demos to be presented at Fenasoft (Our national computer expo, somewhat like Comdex, but smaller), and had little time to work on DarcNES. Today I've had some free time, and fixed some bugs/improved some things, but there's still some pieces missing, like Frameskip. Also, a nasty bug popped out on the last days that would crash or restart the X server if DarcNES was invoked from an XTerm. Well, I don't know exactly why it happened, but it's fixed now (maybe X 4.0 was the cause, now I'm using X 4.01). As soon as frameskip is implemented I'll make a release. Meanwhile, if you live in Brazil and/or happen to be in São Paulo during July 24 to 29, go to the Anhembi Expo Center and visit the Conectiva booth at Fenasoft. I'll be there demoing Linux on the Mac, USB devices on Linux, etc... Nothing too flashy or spectacular, but interesting anyways. See you there! "

07/15/2000 - Virtual Reality Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Virtual Reality website has been updated with some news also! HEre is the post

"Time for an update. I’m finished with school now, so there’s time for Virtual Reality. Again, I’m starting almost completely from scratch. I’ve made some decisions for this version:

First of all, I’m not going to write a gfx plugin. This means you’ll have to use some Nintenendo 64 emu’s plugin for now. (I’ll support zilmar’s plugin-standard for that). Frazzman is working on a gfx-plugin for Virtual Reality.

Virtual Reality is going to use OS emulation at a very high level. This should be faster, and maybe easier to code. But most of all it’s a challenge for me.

The dynanamic recompilation will just have some small changes, but they should make it faster. This probably makes the emu more incompatible, but I don’t care. Maybe OS emulation will help to reduce the loss of compatibility.

I’m thinking of making VR open source, but that’ll wait till it is ‘finished’.

As you may have noticed there’s also a new site-design. Notice the ‘help’ page. I’ll post things there that I need help with, so if you want to help a little you can do one of those things."
Please visit Virtual Reality for more info. Thanks AGAIN goes to PikaPi :) for the news.

07/16/2000 - ArcadeHeaven Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

BMan2 from ArcadeHeaven has updated the page with some new things on the Bust a Move deal! Here is the post

"Just a note to all those MAME compilers out there who are adding the "new" Bust A Move set found in the Needed Soon page to their version of MAME. There is a gap of 0x200000 before the v roms - as is the case for the "Puzzle Bobble" set - and thus must be loaded slightly different from usual.

In the driver - use this for the V rom section:

    ROM_REGION( 0x300000, REGION_SOUND1 REGIONFLAG_SOUNDONLY )
    ROM_LOAD( "bam_v1.rom", 0x200000, 0x80000, 0xf8872aed )
    ROM_LOAD( "bam_v2.rom", 0x280000, 0x80000, 0x5c8cf5fe )

This will allow you to heard the sound effects in the game - as you will only hear music if you load the v roms "normally"."
Please visit Arcade Heaven for more info

07/16/2000 - AdriPSX Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

AdriPSX website has been updated by Bobbi with some news

"Today, I made some updates to this page and fixed several small bugs. First off, the windows version of AdriPSX has been removed from the download page, since it never really developed. This doesn't mean that there won't be a windows version though - Roor is still developing a new one based on his re-written code. I'll also put up the pics for the technical demos on the download page as soon as Roor sends me those.

Then, more important, the status page is up now. On that page, you can get advanced details on how far the GUI, CPU, GPU, SPU, CD-ROM, GTE, MDEC and the BIOS are currently developed, on what Roor currently is working and what's done so far. Roor mentioned, that the general compatibility of the yet unreleased version is at 25%, that means that every forth game runs (although there're often still graphic and sound flaws, but it's still playable).

Another quick note : Please don't send me E-Mails regarding the old AdriPSX version any more, I won't answer them anymore since this version is just here until the new one will be released. "

Logical- sent me an E-mail regarding the new GameSpy's Emulation Article! Here is a Clip

"So what's this "emulation" thing you've heard about (or maybe you haven't)? Basically it is a way to relive the days of gaming that have gone by. Like most gamers, you probably have fond memories of eating ghosts, blasting geometric tanks, saving humanoids (or eating and blasting humanoids, whatever) that you would like to relive. But how to do so, without ponying up hundreds of dollars and filling valuable living space with bulky arcade machines? Oh, the quandary!"
I read it and I think its a really cool article! Compared to the other ones, this one basically praises Emulation in everyway :) Please read the article Here. Thanks goes to Logical- For the news.

07/17/2000 - Z80 version .300 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Z80(Spectrum Emu) version 0.300 is released! Here is what is new

  • - New: Various improvements in AY-3-8910(12)/YM2149F emulation.
  • - New : New sound mode for ESS1688/1868 compatible cards:
    • !!88Khz 16 bit stereo!! Yes, it works and sounds great with these cards.
    • This mode adds HQ AY and Beeper emulation.
    • It can be selected with SB_OUT=32 in z80s.cfg but it requires faster CPU.
  • - New : 3 new switches in z80s.cfg for ESS sound cards:
    1. ESSDETECT=YESNO If YES then emu will try to autodetect baseport, irq&dma of your sound card.
    2. ESSDMA=012 - You may need to change this if sound in ESS sound modes is distorted
    3. ESS_FILTER=YESNO If NO then default values for ESS hardware filter will be set. If YES then next switch will make sense :
    4. ESSFILTER=n (n=230..254) With lower values ESS hardware filter will cut off high frequensies.I dont recommend to change this option
  • - New : 'No sound' mode is added. Select this with SB_OUT=0 in z80s.cfg if you like to play at work ;)
  • - New : WSS driver was rewritten. Also two volume settings now work for these sound card: VOL_DAC and VOL_CD.
  • - New : Support for a bunch of VESA2.0+ video modes are added. Look in z80s.cfg for their description (it's at the end of z80s.cfg after VMODE switch)
Please download Z80 from our Spectrum Emu Section.
