If someone understand how to actually play this game, instructions are welcome!"

SMB3 Challange version 6.3b is released! This is what is new

"New in version 6.3b are many bugfixes by Mr. W, mostly on the World Maps, as well as a new World 7 Map made by Cait Sith 2. These fix many bugs that crashed the game in certain areas on the map, or that gave garbled messes of graphics that you had to sqwabble through. Also, it solved the problem of the Doom Ship moving to an area that the road doesn't lead to. Most of these problems were pretty rare before, but they were extremely annoying, and they are now completely gone. A new levels version will not be out for another few days.
"

08/23/1999 - Bleemy Goodness! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Oh my goodness!! err Bleemy Goodness! Bleem has won another Court Case with Sony!! Look at the post

    PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION DENIED!!
bleem! has cleared yet another great hurdle in the constant bumpy road to bleemy goodness. A San Francisco judge ruled AGAINST Sony today in a case that will allow bleem to continue to develop, improve, sell, and ship until it's next court date to be determined. For those of you who don't know, or don't remember... it was at this step that Connectix lost their ability to continue production of their MAC PlayStation emulator. By clearing the great hurdle, we can be assured to continue to bring you the bleem you love! This is the same case that has been pending since so long ago, you may remember a couple attempts to get temporary restraining orders (which were also denied). This is a great step for bleem and we want to thank all of you, because without you, we would have never made it this far... Thanks again!

Yay! I send a Good Luck to the Bleem team that is working hard on making one of the best PSX Emu so far out!

08/25/1999 - serious IE5 bug. [Posted by DarkMazda]

It looks like a guy found a really bad IE5 security bug! look at what it could do

"which enables a malicious hacker to place a program on the victim's hard disk, to be executed at the next reboot." According to Guninski (who discovered the bug), "the attack can be launched by causing IE5 users to click on a hyperlink on a web page, but it also can be transmitted by e-mail to users of Microsoft's Outlook 98. The exploit places an executable program in an HTML Application file in a Window 95 or 98 computer's start-up folder. When the victim reboots his or her computer, the program will execute."

They said you could do this to protect yourself in the mean time

"In the meantime, concerned IE5 users can protect themselves by going into security tab of the browser's Internet Options menu, and disabling ActiveX controls or plug-ins."

Please go read the full article Here. Thanks goes to Atila for the news.

  • - Fixed svgafx running suid root
  • - Added console switching to svgafx
  • - Removed -fxgamma this was not possible with a clean solution to suid root 3dfx support.
  • - Fixed 16bpp modes on cards which use 65536 colors instead of 32678 with svgalib, thanks to: William Barath
  • - Workaround for a DGA bug on Matrox G100 cards which causes the display to be corrupted. Thanks to: d.swanson
  • - Made -listroms respect -stdout-file by: Chris from TKMAME

08/26/1999 - Snes9x update! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Snes9x website has been updated!! look at what they say
Hmm, I'm back working on the Windows port again and things aren't going well. Jerremy 'complained' about having two Windows port releases, one with 3dfx card support and one without; it was also confusing people about which one to download. He thought there was a way to dynamically bind to the glide dll on request, removing the need to two separate releases. I investigated, located some Micro$oft documentation on how to do it, lots of tedious editing and typing later and ... it doesn't work. Arrr!

I call LoadLibrary to load up the dll, which works fine, then call GetProcAddress many times to obtain the addresses of various glide functions so I can actually call them, this bit always fails. If I can't get it working soon I'll make a release with 3dfx support broken.

I've already done some other changes to the windows port:

  • - able to specify where to save S-RAM and freeze files
  • - removed black boarders around image when stretch image option enabled
  • - Voodoo 3 support (although all voodoo support is broken at the moment due to other changes)
  • - stretch image mode speed ups
  • - stretch image overwriting menu bar
  • - complete Mario RPG support
  • - new ZSNES Super FX engine
  • - some other stuff that I've forgotten

Jerremy is writing a cheats dialog; when (if) it turns up, I'll include that in the Windows port.

My basic plan for the windows port is continue to fix general Windows specific problems first such as sound on some hardware, missing desktop depth conversion code, missing emulation config options, missing mouse and superscope mouse emuation, etc. then concentrate GUI enhancements, nice-to-have features, cheat options, netplay, etc.

08/27/1999 - Speccyal 0.54 [Posted by _Bnu]

Speccyal is a new ZX Spectrum 48K emulator, and from what I've seen on the features list it's kind of good :) The release I've added today just adds support for 32 bpp desktops, but I'll throw in the general features list here:

  • Exclusively written for DirectX (DirectDraw, DirectInput and DirectSound)
  • Runs in 16 or 32 bits color modes only for now (24 will be supported later, 8 bpp will never be, sorry !)
  • Works in 512x384 windowed mode (768x576 will be supported in one of the following releases, maybe even fullscreen)
  • Compatible with up to 90% of all games and the number is growing every day (I wrote the z80 CPU from scratch, so it is not perfect)
  • Load and save .SNA files. Z80 format should follow.
  • Support for all windows attached joysticks
  • Kempston/Sinclair1/Sinclair2/Cursor emulation (joystick or keyboard arrows keys)
  • Sound support (altough not perfect)
  • Save current options in an .INI file
  • It's TOTALLY FREE !! (who doubted it ??)

You can go download it from the Spectrum emulators page.

Hopefully everyhting will be in soon, and I can have a computer by next week. Till then, don't bother e-mailing or ICQing me, because I won't be able to answer anything. I hope to be back by Monday. later. "
