10/04/1999 - Well, uhm... Bye. :\ [Posted by _Bnu]

After much thought I have decided I will resign from DMD. I was needed there in the beginning when Mazda had noone else on the staff, but now people seem to be coming back and doing their share of the work. Apparently the FTP pass changed a few days ago and I wasn't notified (:\), so I can't remove myself from the staff page and main page. But please don't take me wrong now. By saying that I resign I don't say that I don't like DMD, on the contrary I strongly advise you to keep visiting this site, after all it's one of the most regularly emulation updated sites that exists.

But as things once were they will become once again..... My best luck to you Mazda, DooMStalK, zentendo and WiNGnuT! Keep up the good work and this site will go far! Sorry for leaving, but I guess working for ZD for over one year set some tracks in my soul.

So here's the release RCP talked about. With everything from joystick support to SRAM saves."

I'm sorry _Bnu, I just forgot about it and I forgot to tell you. I have to give you a big apology, I had no intentions of firing you in anyway. Just that I was so locked up with my stuff and I forgot all about telling you about the login change.. the password was not changed at all.. Just the login is darkmazda not the other one :) I'm sorry, even if you say you quit, I will always have ya on the updater and give you access to FTP.. i'm really sorry _Bnu.. If i've fired you, your updater login would've worked :) I'm so sorry _Bnu

Kinda? Well, if 2.1ghz isn't fast enough for you, go back to sleep for another year or two. IBMs new Power4 processor will contain a two processor cores plus a shared on-die L2 cache and control circuitry for an external L3 cache. It will run at 1.1GHz and deliver 11,000 MIPS at launch(sometime next year), when it will be fabbed in 0.18 micron. IBM however intends to shift it to the dream combination of 0.13 micron, copper and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) by 2002-3, which is expected to kick clock speeds up in the direction of 2GHz.

I've started new projects, I am rather satisfied with the emulation level Jnes attains. The build that will be released in possibly a few days isn't a final build in a sense, but there is nothing major I see happening. I hope everyone enjoys this emulator, the new build is nice.

10/09/1999 - Geoshock stays!! yay! [Posted by DarkMazda]

GeoShock didn't quit after all!! woohoo!

I don't want to have to give this up.. as I don't want to let the 'innocent users' of this site down. I guess its just going to be a case of blank out what I don't like. With regards to Kof'99 I stick by my statement, the damage has been done. Its on the net, it may as well be on GeoShock now, which isn't the same thing as me wanting to see it dumped and on GeoShock but as I said, damage has been done. By throwing the towel in now I'd feel I were letting you down. Maybe there is hope. I'm sure I can't be the only one to have this kind of abuse targetted at me, I guess I've still got a lot to learn. Saying that is it worth it still, if I'm not cut-out for this why open back up, if it just brings me more unhappiness that anything else why bother.

Just trying to help people seems to be a crime in this world, and to me that was what GeoShock was about, just helping people out, governed by the lay of the land I guess thats just not possible, every move just seems to be the wrong one, god this scene seems to be full of bullshit, false assumptions, and more. I've never claimed to be any kind of god, I just want to be able to get on with doing what I do, helping people and informing people of whats going on. Just because sometimes my opinions don't quite match yours doesn't mean we can't exist in the same world, the same scene, flaming people just because you don't like something isn't the way forwards, I guess its time to just move on, GeoShock has no value, that seems obvious, but the again so does CPS2Shock, a genuine attempt at something thats not yet been done, someones got to try it, but its written off before its started. I guess thats what happens if something becomes a public project, people just think you're not capable if you're asking for help. You don't know who your friends are thats one thing for sure

Good luck geoshock team :)

10/09/1999 - Athlon news [Posted by Chronoso]

Word on the street is that AMD has lots of Athlons, but there aren't enough Athlon motherboards to go around. Maybe you can find one if you look, but I bet Dell, Gateway and Micron held off for exactly this reason. The three biggest motherboard makers I can think of - that don't have Athlon boards our - are Abit, Asus, and Tyan. Well, Asus is coming forward with their motherboard, and there are already reviews up about it at Lost Circuits and BX Boards. The forum over at Ace's Hardware has an interesting post saying that Asus has 40,000 of their new K7M boards in stock and ready to go. It's an anonymous post, so I don't know how true that is. What is true is that Asus definitely has a board ready and it will be out soon. It is also true that in its current revision, you can overclock your Athlons bus speed easily, but both reviewers had trouble getting over 110MHz bus speed. It appears to be a motherboard / chipset limitation as opposed to an Athlon limitation.

Tyan will be launching their Athlon motherboard at Comdex in November, according to an article at The Register at least one sentence at the end. The rest of the article discusses the Intel motherboard situation. It's a decent read. So, the big question in my mind is: Where's Abit?

10/09/1999 - Corn 0.001 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Corn version 0.001 is released!! Here is a post from them on their site

First I must thank all the people in N64emudev for your very informative and firendly chatting and great help. Without you, Corn cannot be like what it is now.

Also I would like to thank all the people who sent me information about Corn 0.01 beta. I can not reply every email, but whether or not I replied your email, I will not forget the help you gave to me.

Now, here it is Corn 0.01. Well, I think it should be called a ATI-RagePro-work-around version. Because in order to make mario look properly on ragepro, I had to use unusual (sometimes even incorrect) methods to implement some combine modes such as the river water and mario's hat. After I upgrade my video card, I may no longer use those incorrect methods, although they works for mario. That means, you probably will not be able to see transparent water on a ragepro with later releases.

This version should fix many graphics problems, and the crashes on some cpus. The very hard flickering shadows problem was solved by hWnd of Nemu.

For people with a fast PC, you can press F1 to slow down and F2 to speed up. For people who don't want to use joystick, you can try disable it from the misc menu.

Please pick up Corn at the N64 Emu Section.

10/09/1999 - SMB3C version 7-2 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

New SMB3c has been released! Here is what the Author E-mailed me :)

"It seems I have been away for a while. It has been a month since CG's last release, but now a new version of Super Mario Bros. 3 Challenge is out. There are many new, extremely hard levels, plus there have been some background color changes and such from levels from previous versions. There are some very cool, very hard puzzles in it, plus the World 7 map has been changed around again. Level 9, world 7 has a glitch, so it is gone.

New versions of SmbC should come soon, and maybe MetroidC. ZeldaC is having some major holdups, who knows when that will have its debut release? And, of course, there are only one or two more releases to come before Smb3C is FINISHED! "

Please go download the new SMB3C from their Official Site which is hosted by DMD at http://smb3c.darkmazda.com. Thanks goes to X-4000 for the Email :)

10/10/1999 - Tips from Wook: [Posted by DarkMazda]

  1. While some individuals might claim Sony is taking longer than it should with the PSX2, after reading what The Register printed from Ken Kutaragi's statement concerning the PSX3, you will be surprised at the speed in which the PSX2 will become obsolete.
  2. Nintendojo interviewed Henk Rodgers, known to GameBoy Tetris fans, in a straightforward discussion of his roots, work, and experiences.
  3. Square's Chrono Cross will allow gamers to form their party from over forty personas. Gaming Intelligence Agency keeps a close eye on this game's development while wondering if Square can manage this large cast without sacrificing the plot or story.

  2. CrusieR has updated the Dream64 site with this post

Hello everyone. This is 'CruiseR' of the Dream64 team. As you have all recently heard, Spectre has left the team and has publicly embarrassed us. This was not a good step in the progress of our emu. Let him think that we don't have the knowledge to finish Dream64. We'll prove him wrong. After this horrible news of his leaving, Nuke and Sunman have decided to do the VI and DMA interrupts themselves. And Yes, they know what they are doing. But the main reason this update is here is because we are in need of an experienced OpenGL graphics coder. We need someone that really knows what they are doing and will be faithful to the team no matter what Dream64 has or doesn't have. We cannot afford another flake because Dream64 has been around for quite a while now, and to tell you the truth, it seems we've fallen way behind. So if anybody reads this and thinks they could help, please do so, it'll be greatly appreciated."

    thanks a bunch

10/13/1999 - Quick Palm note [Posted by Chronoso]

TRG has licensed the PalmOS for use in a soon to be announced enterprise deployable PDA. TRG is well known for their 8MB expansion module for most Palm devices available today and their FlashPro app which gives you access to more of your PDAs RAM. TRG will announce their new PDA at PalmSource '99 in a few weeks. Here is my question, who remembers the IBM "clone" days of old where your choice of OS dwindled down to nothing? Hrmmmm, I'm not sure I like where this is heading.

According to Palm's press release, Nokia will be helping "expand the Palm OS® operating system as a platform for smart phones" while at the Symbian site they have a little different spin stating that the Palm-Nokia partnership will "extend the device families based on Symbian’s platform." Ok, which is it boys, PalmOS or Symbian (EPOC)? Maybe Nokia hardware with PalmOS brains, or maybe Palm hardware running EPOC? Maybe an frightening hybrid of both? Ugh, all this is making me dizzy.

10/13/1999 - SMB3c version 7.4 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

SMB3C version 7.4 is released! Here is what is new from the Email from the Author

Due to a very serious bug, the previous version of Super Mario Bros. 3 Challenge, 8.0, was nearly unplayable. After two days of trying to fix this problem, I have discovered that it either cannot be done, or at least that it would be much easier to simply re-implement the changes found in version 8.0 on a fresh patch. Hence version 7.4, which does NOT contain the bug, and has two more levels than 7.2. This patch is intended only to give people something to tide them over until I can completely redo version 8.0, hopefully in the next day or two. I thank you all for your understanding, and your support of Challenge Games!

Please grab this new patch from their OFficial Site hosted by DMD! :) Thanks goes to X-4000 for the news.

Pretendo website has been updated with this post

"Okay, so we lied. We weren't "back" in a week. Anyway, here's some attempt at an update I guess. We've been working crazy hard all summer, and throught September and October.... We're almost ready for a release soon, hopefully by next month the latest. We're about to give out beta software to our testers, and we'll see how that goes. If you haven't heard, we have a plugin system. This means that you can contribute to the project, if you want. We want to test out a plugin written by someone other than one of us. We're looking for an experienced Win32 coder to write a GDI based graphics plugin. You must know C++, be using MS VC++, and know how to do DLLs. If you are interested, please drop either of us a mail... tell us a few things about yourself, what kind of experience you have, etc.... samples are cool. "

10/14/1999 - Gameboy emulator for palm [Posted by Chronoso]

I received an e-mail this morning from the creator of Gambit, a GameBoy emulator for the PalmOS. It seems that he has been trying to figure out the legalities of his emulator program. Basically, he's afraid of being sued by Nintendo and he has been reading up on the legalities of emulation software. At this point he has been contacting other GameBoy developers and says that the response is favorable for porting their GameBoy titles to the PalmOS.

For now it looks like he's going to be releasing a version of the emulator that only plays the freely-distributed games, with another version in the works that will play the ones that he'll recompile with the authors' permission. He's also saying that he can probably get the sound to work on the recompiled ones, so that's some good news.

He wants to know what games the Palm community would be interested in and would be willing to pay for. If you have some suggestions, e-mail him at maven@planetkc.com.

One more thing: he's also thinking that if a developer wants to make a device that allows the GameBoy cartridges to be "plugged in" to the Palm, that would be legal. So, if you have suggestions or want to build some hardware, send him some e-mail. I played the emulator a while ago and was very impressed with its functionality.

I've been thinking that maybe instead of an emulator he could just recompile the PRC files to be self-running and have the emulator live happily with each of them. That way he could easily put in code for registering and such and then could start distributing self-running, freely available ported games. Just a thought.

10/14/1999 - Gameboy emulator for Palm scrapped [Posted by Chronoso]

It looks like the legalities of emulation software have taken another victim. The Gameboy emulator that was in development for Palm devices has been scraped due to the legal implications of a public release. One idea which has come from this is a springboard module that would allow you to plug in Gameboy games directly to a Visor or other springboard capable unit. My take is, emulation is very sticky business and it will be hard to find anyone willing to put in the cash for R&D on such a product after what Connectix and the makers of Bleem! have been through. I don't think Nintendo themselves would release such a springboard either since their new Gameboy is expected to compete with PDAs such as the Visor.

10/15/1999 - Athlon Price Reduction [Posted by Chronoso]

The Register reports that the 700MHz Athlon will be reduced from US$815 to the suspicious sum of $666 on the date of October 24th. The suspicion is that the price reduction, if true, will signal the release of a 750MHz Athlon. On the open market, it's getting easier to locate Athlon 650's, but Athlon 700's still appear to be scarce. On PriceWatch most of the vendors have an ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) listed with their 700MHz Athlon listings, indicating that they listed the Athlons before they were in stock. If 700MHz is out, let's get some stock out there. It's kind of lame in my book for AMD not to build up enough stock to supply demand before announcing new chip speeds. Intel, on the other hand, always seems to have chips that they've announced available in quantity. We'll see if they can keep it up with AMD blazing such a tough trail.

10/15/1999 - Celeron III [Posted by Chronoso]

Apparently, confidential Intel documents make reference to the Celeron III. The Register wonders what the Celeron III is. Why name a processor the Celeron III with no Celeron II? Well, the answer is that the original Celeron is the Celeron II, modeled after the Pentium II. The next Celeron may be called the Celeron III, but it will modeled after the Pentium III, featuring a 100MHz bus speed and SSE instructions.

Hu-GO version 1.04b is released! Here is what is new

16 October '99 : Aaah, holydays miss me a lot. Until 1 hour ago, I really though I had to break my rythm. Fortunately, I've just implemented a double sound driver support (Seal and Allegro) so I think I can make a release today.

As I told you, this release include a sound driver choice because people with 'not so fast' machines were annoyed by the new driver which require more cpu speed. I'm also working on a more compatible ISO support to allow PCE CDs not using Nec bios to be launched.

I'd like to say I've finally succeded in buying a CoregraphX this week. What a pleasure to play 'in truth' to the good old PCE games. I'd also like to thank a lot people that send me PCE stuff. It's great. Until now, I've received stuff from 2 people and I'm waiting for 3 others. Thanx to all (baconboy, alex, roushi, sam, crisis ). And now I got some Hu cards, I'd eventually like to trade some. Don't hesitate to contact me.

Please grab this from the TG16 Emu Section.

"untitled" games that still need to be recognized, as they are in Japanese or Chinese language.

We're hardly working on a website (which will get its own domain) to present you a complete overview of available Mega Drive/Genesis games, each with its own description, screenshot, etc.

    10/18/1999 - I'm back [Posted by Chronoso]

    Hello, I'm back.

10/18/1999 - Color Palm devices in the near future? [Posted by Chronoso]

Today, Motorola announced their new Dragonball VZ chip. Previous versions of this processor power more than 60% of the PDAs in use today but have been limited to 16MHz. The new VZ model will run at 33MHz as well as support 256 color LCD on the chip. This is BIG NEWS for all those waiting for a color Palm devices. Rumors were flying a month back about Apple releasing a color PDA based on the PalmOS but no announcement was made. Handspring was also rumored to be working on a color PalmOS device before the Visor became official. With this new Dragonball series, these rumors seem much more viable. Motorola also officially announced their 20MHz Dragonball, which runs the new Palm Vx.

10/18/1999 - A big week for Palm [Posted by Chronoso]

PalmSource '99 starts tomorrow in Santa Clara California and Palm supporters are coming out of the woodwork. We've recently reported on the Nokia/Palm deal, the TRG PalmOS device, and of course the Handspring Visor, but other vendors are placing their bets the PalmOS as well. Riverbed Technologies is licensing their ScoutSync and Scout IT products to Palm while Sybase Inc., Computer Associates, and Tivoli Systems plan to develop management interfaces for the HotSync server. Expect lots of Palm news this week and possibly a few exclusives depending on how well my "Man in the Field" does at the event.

10/18/1999 - Vadem Clio gets a speed/memory boost [Posted by Chronoso]

According to ZDNet, Vadem is now selling a faster Clio, 168MHz to be exact. The upgraded Clio sports a 168MHz NEC VR4121 CPU, 32MB RAM, internal 56Kbps modem, and 9.4 inch 640x480 dual scan display. The "new" Clio has a MSRP of $999 while the "old" Clio is selling at the Vadem store at the discounted price of $899. Sharp's Tri-Pad is based on the Vadem Clio so we may see a new and improved Tri-Pad soon. It's hard to say if this unit is the "fastest" consumer CE device running due to the differences in the NEC and Hitachi chips most commonly used ...it does have the fastest clock frequency however.

10/19/1999 - CPS-2 Shock updated! [Posted by DarkMazda]

CPS-2 Shock website has been updated with some news, here is the post

I've updated the W.I.P page with my current status, and decided to take a break for a day from examining the $00 encrypted tables. Instead I've been busy getting a new report finished showing the 68000 vector tables for all the ROM's I've been comparing. You can get to this new report here or from the bottom of the encryption page.

I have also removed Street Fighter the Movie (Incredible Technologies) from the game list page as we now know this is not a standard CPS-2 game.

Please visit their Official Site for more info.

10/19/1999 - TRG PalmOS based TRGPro is now official [Posted by Chronoso]

TRG, makers of the popular FlashPro PalmOS app, have officially launched their PalmOS licensed TRGPro PDA. Basically, this is a Palm IIIx with 8MB RAM and a CompactFlash slot. The slot is the big news on this one with available CF cards including RAM (up to 340MB), modems, Ethernet cards, serial connections, and bar code readers. The TRGPro FAQ also says they've beefed up the speaker which now has the ability to play .wav files (what about .MP3?). As reported earlier at PDABuzz.com, the TRGPro is aimed directly at a corporate market so consumer availability is unknown at this time. Will the new CF enabled TRGPro give the Handspring Visor and springboard a run for their money ... we'll se

10/19/1999 - Genesis Power releases a 32x rom! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Genesis Power has released their final 32x rom! here is what the email said.. which is from Snorter

20 Oct 1999 - FIFA International Soccer 96 for the 32x donated by
Spyros and dumped by NeoZeed released. Unless we come across
a beta or an unknown 32x cartridge, this is the last unique title we
needed to dump. There are still a few country code variations we
are missing, but there is at least one dump now for each known 32x
    title.

Note: This ROM looks like it was really rushed out the door. The
header fields are a bit screwy, the checksum is 0, and the
SEGA_ID field in the ROM says Sega Mega Drive instead of Sega
32x. It really looks like EA grabbed some 1994 beta off the shelf and
released it before the console died entirely.

Please grab the rom from their Official Site.
