10/02/2000 - Boob!boy updates [Posted by DtK]
More on the Dreamcast scene (Which I apologize for..) but CyRuS64 has updated the Boob! webpage with some valuable information.
"Public release tonight... be sure to be in #boob on efnet from Midnight GMT
Boob!boy beta3 went out last night, and i've had pretty good feedback from it... as for the controllers, i'm thinking about using the digital pad as this would work better imo than the analogue stick, which is causing some problems at the moment. hopefully ill be sending out beta3b tonight for beta testers!
*Update*: I've also removed the border so that all games now run full screen, which adds to the atmosphere when playing imo... in future releases you'll be able to choose if you want the borders on or off, but only super gameboy games really use them anyway."
So tonight you will be able to get Boob!boy that's just great!

10/02/2000 - New MAME beta released [Posted by Slime]
0.37 BETA 8
These drivers have improved GRAPHICS:
-------------------------------------
- Fixed scrolling in Major Title and priority in Hammerin' Harry.
[Nicola Salmoria]
These drivers have improved SOUND:
----------------------------------
Preliminary sound in Blade Master, Gunforce, UUCops and Lethal Thunder.
[Bryan McPhail]
Source:
-------
- Major changes to the memory interface.
Drivers must use the new MEMORY_READ_START etc. macros, and for 16-bit CPUs the API is completely changed: the new READ16_HANDLER, WRITE16_HANDLER function types must be used for memory handlers. The macros READ_WORD(), WRITE_WORD() etc. are obsolete: handlers must directly access 16-bit wide arrays (use data16_t * instead of the old unsigned char *); always use the new macro COMBINE_DATA() to store data in the arrays correctlyhandling 8-bit wide memory accesses. Use ACCESSING_MSB and ACCESSING_LSB to know if the specified byte is being accessed (necessary for 8-bit wide external hardware). You no longer have to use MRA_BANKx for sparse RAM areas, you can use MRA_RAM just like with the 8-bit games.
A handful of drivers haven't beenconverted to the new API yet, and therefore
don't work. On startup, they will give the error cpu # uses wrong data width memory handlers! and refuse to start.
The cheat system might be broken for 16-bit CPUs (untested).
[Juergen Buchmueller]
- Changes to the tilemap API:
- tilemap_render() is obsolete
- struct tilemap is private - can't be accessed directly
- tilemap_set_transparent_pen() and tilemap_set_transmask() replace direct
poking in the tilemap
- tilemap_mark_all_pixels_dirty() is obsolete (replaced by
tilemap_dirty_palette() which is automatically called by palette_recalc())
- additional parameter to tilemap_draw() to specify the priority mask to be
stored in the priority buffer
[Phil Stroffolino]
- Removed palette_transparent_color which is no longer needed by any driver.
[Nicola Salmoria] - Removed the "ui" parameter from osd_mark_dirty(). [Nicola Salmoria] - Removed osd_clearbitmap(). The correct way to black the screen in drivers
is, and has always been, fillbitmap(). osd_alloc_bitmap() no longer has to
clear the bitmap (it isn't necessary since it's cleared by the drivers
anyway).
extern int need_to_clear_bitmap removed as well; use schedule_full_refresh()
instead (clearing the bitmap is not necessary because drivers are required to
redraw the whole screen when full_refresh is 1). [Nicola Salmoria] - Rewritten the Nec CPU core, with correct timing and support for encryption.
[Bryan McPhail] - Preliminary Irem GA20 sound emulation. [Bryan McPhail] - The profiler also watches memory read and write handlers. They were
previously cumulated with the CPU emulation.
Also, the profiler is now disabled in non-debug builds because the
performance hit is quite noticeable. [Nicola Salmoria] - The x86 asm 68000 core now has limited 68020 support and runs the Psikyo
games, so is reenabled by default. [Darren Olafson]
New games supported:
--------------------
dozens of Nichibutsu mahjong and quiz games [Takahiro Nogi]
Super Dodge Ball [Paul Hampson, Nicola Salmoria]
Macross [Mirko Buffoni]
Macross II [Nicola Salmoria]
Nouryoku Koujou Iinkai [Nicola Salmoria]
Strahl [Bryan McPhail]
Pushman [Bryan McPhail]
Bomberman [Bryan McPhail]
Bomberman World [Bryan McPhail]
Donpachi [Luca Elia]
Blaze On [Luca Elia]
Beezer [Mathis Rosenhauer]
Sel Feena [Jarek Burczynski]
Libble Rabble [Edgardo E. Contini Salvan]
New clones supported:
---------------------
Hissatsu Buraiken (= Avengers)
Sky Adventure (Japan)
Gunforce (Japan)
Daiku no Gensan (Japan, M72)
Warriors of Fate (US)
Street Fighter II (US revision I)

I later applyed for hosting at Zophar.net(which never replyed back),DarkMazda.com(where I am now) and some time after my hosting the owner of GameGurus.net asked me if I would like to be hosted by there new server called XGamers.com. So finally after weeks of work I uploaded the whole site last night and many of the webmasters out there(ZXG,Cody,RockmanDX) posted about my site. I am also accepting any ideas for new pages, images, etc. Now I will let you rome around my site and enjoy. 10/03/2000 - Sintendo Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Sintendo's website has recieved an update! Here is the snippet
"A friend of mine, who programs a little, came over today and sat and watched me program for about 4 or 5 hours, giving me idea, helping me talk why way through problems and generally being a great asset. Thank you, Shawn, for your help. I acomplished some really good things in those hours, solving two or three of the several problems that have risen while trying to move my code over to the Dreamcast. The first was memory, which I'd imagined would be a problem anyways, which is now temporarily solved until after I get some code running. The second was that the Snes9x code didn't load the ROM file correctly due to incompatibility with UNICODE. It took some messing arround with the WinCE system calls, but it finally loads the ROM correctly and initializes all of the memory structures Snes9x needs. I've played with a few graphic scenarios and finally found one I like and is both compatible with the PC and the Dreamcast at high speeds. While the Dreamcast code does not yet output Snes9x graphics, it should soon. The bonus side of this is that the PC code now runs at a full 60 fps, on a PIII 450 with a mediocre graphics card. It didn't budge from 60 for even a second. I've taken a little time to play arround with some of the games, and thought you guys would be interested in some more screen shots."
Wanna see some screenshots!? Head on over to the Sintendo's website.

"Hi. Just letting everyone know that I plan on releasing the beta sometime this week. I know that everyone has been looking at Spinal's screen shots. :) He has informed me that he is currently working the ini files for TR64. This is more of a WIP release than anything else. 10/03/2000 - Charles MacDonald's Page updates [Posted by DarkMazda]
Charles MacDonald's Website has been updated with some Sega System 24 News
"I've been making a lot of progress with the Sega System 24 hardware. I found datasheets for all the types of RAM used, as well as ones for the floppy disk hardware. When (if) I get some games running, I can log commands to the FDC and figure out the disk format which may help in developing a PC tool to dump disks correctly.
I've also had some luck working out the memory map, and have determined out where the sprite attribute and name tables are located at.
I'll be updating the System 24 info page in the near future with my new findings. "
10/04/2000 - Mimic Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Mimic's website has been updated with some news
"'What a good day I have been having!!!
Fixed up my PC's woes by changing the virtual memory settings to have a minimum of 0Mb. This means that Win98 will create a new swap file everytime I boot up. This worked !!!! No more crashing !!!! The swap file must have been serverly rooted by the hardware crashes and once the hardware problems were solved the swap file was still screwed. Anyway, I am back in business!!!
While I was neatening up the code, I rewrote the CP opcode in the Z80 core to fix a slight bug it had. All of a sudden some SMS games were looking cleaner, some glitches were gone and arcade Galaxian now says "Namco" at the bottom of the screen. This inspired me to finish off the Galaxian driver by adding bullets. This looks good.
I will tie up some more loose ends and then release...stay tuned... "
10/04/2000 - bleemcast! release soon!? [Posted by DarkMazda]

10/05/2000 - Sintendo Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Sintendo has been updated with some news and some screenshots of Super Mario World running
"Breaktrough. This time it was by myself. The games weren't playing because the ROMs weren't loading correctly. Fixed. I pulled a roommate into my room to show him how far I've gotten, telling him "there's an off chance it might work". We watched anxiously as it gave me line after line of good information, then... boom: Nintendo. Illusion of Gaia, actually an accidental pick, its a favorite of one of my roommates (another roommate). This was the first game I saw run on the Dreamcast, Build #93. I've since gotten up to Build #97 and I've seen Zelda and Super Mario World run as well. None of them run particularly well as the system is kindof "flaky". It tends to crash and I think I know why. I'm much too tired tonight to figure it out, but I'll get on it tommorrow. "
We aren't sure with these pictures that this emulator is real. But Check their Website. These pictures could've been easly made iwth Photoshop and ZSNES work :) im just saying hehe

The iMAME's website has been updated with some news and a new binary
"04OCT00 8:44PM: Geeeez...did I ever have that installer screwed up! Very sorry to those who struggled with it! I think new install binary should have it patched up now!
Please pick up the new binary from iMAME's website
04OCT00: I have been told that the installer may not be so good. If you have already ran the Self-extracting Installer, and installed iMame to your Desktop ActiveSync Directory, you may need to go into the Desktop ActiveSync Directory (usually c:\program files\microsoft activesync\"), locate the iMame CAB file, and drag it manually over to the Pocket PC. Do not try to open the CAB file. Just drag it over to the Pocket PC (through Windows Explorer). Once it is copied over to the Pocket PC, the Pocket PC application manager will take over and automatically complete the installation. If you have been able successfully do the whole installation completely, please let me know! I will check into this shortly."

10/05/2000 - Charles MacDonald's Page updates [Posted by DarkMazda]
Charles MacDonald's Page has been updated with some news about the Sega System 24
"As foretold in the Rumor Mill, I finally have my Sega System 24 arcade game emulator running some games.
Regardless of System 24 games coming on disk or ROM, being encrypted or not, they all have some unprotected 'boot' code that gets the hardware up and running, using one of the two CPU's. Currently that's the part working in my emulator.
It's the best way to get started, since all the problems related with getting data off the floppy disk or ROM board aren't present. Furthermore, the 'boot' code includes diagnostics, which means things like inputs, sound, colors, and the video hardware can be tested quite easily.
What I might do is have a WIP section with screenshots and information about any progress made. I'm hoping development will be rapid as I already worked out quite a lot of the hardware prior to writing the emulator. The next step is to add some structure to the source code (probably by ripping the framework from SMS Plus or c2emu), so I can start implementing all the things I've got written down.
The games that are working (not perfectly, I mean being able to navigate around in service mode only) are Hot Rod, Scramble Spirits / Super Master's Golf, and Quiz Ghost Hunter. Tokoro San 2 doesn't work at the moment, and beyond that I do not have dumps from any other games. (e.g. Gain Ground, Crack Down, Bonanza Bros, etc.) However, it seems that the early set of games all use the same or similar boot code, so chances are they'd work as well. "
10/05/2000 - gleam! updates [Posted by DtK]
The gleam! website has been updated with some good news and a source release. For those who don't recall gleam! is a nintendo emulator for your dreamcast! Here is the news:
"Hopefully some news that will generate traffic :).. I've released the source code to gleam's assembly cpu core, written in sh4 asm. My goal is that people will download, correct, and send me patches. I will appreciate anything that helps. I know there are smart and witty people out there, so help :) This core is a LOT faster than my old C core, but there are a LOT more bugs, most of which I don't have the time to stomp out. I know it's hard for you to work on the core without the other part of gleam, but if you can do it, then I will appreciate your help.
I can't wait to see what's next.
10/05/2000 - Sintendo news [Posted by DtK]
Whoo some more dreamcast news this time though it is about super nintendo. For anyone wondering I didn't abandon DMD the past few days I've just been a busy man. Here is what Sin had to say:
"Sorry to have to do this to you guys - I know you've all been waiting very patiently - but I'm going to hold off the release of Sintendo until October 7th, the deadline.
This buys me some time to iron out the problems, make sure it works and works well, type out some burning instructions, and deal with all the other tiny details that must be taken care of.
After that, I am taking a week off to reassemble my life, get a job, study for classes, et cetera. I have neglected every day living for so long I need some catching up to do. You guys should be more than satisfied to play one or two SNES games on the Dreamcast for a week until I start working on menu code.
If there are any major problems with the first release, I will try to solve those on an as-needed basis. But I do not intend to start adding other features to Sintendo until the weekend of the 14th."
You can visit the Sintendo website @ http://sintendo.dcwarez.com

10/06/2000 - Atari800 v1.0.5 [Posted by DtK]

You can pick up Atari800 from our Atari 5200 emu page. Also note the author has a new web address which has been updated as well.
10/06/2000 - SNES9x Ver. 1.32 Released [Posted by Slime]
Here's what's new:
- Changed the Windows port to delay load the two OpenGL DLLs, so now they're only loaded if you switch to OpenGL mode. The original version of Windows 95 didn't include the OpenGL DDLs, so Snes9x wouldn't even start on that platform; now it should.
- Added yet another sound buffer option to the Windows port - this time the block size of sound data to mix. Some DirectSound sound card drivers only report the play position moving in steps rather than continuous amounts and Snes9x's default mix block size turned out to be smaller than this step value on several cards. Snes9x couldn't work out out where the true play position was accurately enough resulting in broken, noisy sound output.
- Modified the Windows frame timer code to use semaphores rather than events - they should make Snes9x more reliable at not missing frame sync pulses when Windows is busy doing background tasks.
- Added SA-1 shutdown code - basically, Snes9x now stops emulating SA-1 CPU instructions when the SA-1 enters an idle loop waiting for the main SNES CPU to give it something to do. All SA-1 run much faster and smoother now.
- Added multi-axis joystick/game controller support to the Windows port and tweaked the dead-zone threshold position a little.
- It looks like the SNES PPU was designed to support 128K of V-RAM but only 64K was fitted; Snes9x wasn't wrapping all V-RAM address to stay within the 64K limit causing a corrupt title screen on ReX Ronan - there will be others.
- Added amend functionality to the Windows Cheat Entry dialog and added extra text boxes for direct address and cheat value input rather than only being able to type in a Game Genie or Pro-Action Reply code.
- BS Suttehakkun2 was crashing just before start of play - the ROM was performing a junk DMA that was corrupting RAM, crashing the game when it went searching for a particular value.
- F-1 Grand Prix requires IRQ triggering when IRQ scan-line register set to current scan line, but Chuck Rock objects. Hmm. Chuck Rock seems to indicate the CPU emulation is running too fast, but I can't see where the mistake is. Special-cased Chuck Rock for now.
- Optimised SNES DMA handling slightly - copying data to SNES V-RAM is now significantly faster.
- Windows Cheat search dialog was ignoring data type parameter in various places which was causing problems when larger numbers were being searched for.
- Forced unknown PPU register reads to always return 0
- a coding bug in Equinox shows that this is required. An earlier fix didn't work.
- Puya Puya 2 & remix were objecting to an NMI being triggered when enabling NMIs after scan-line 226, but Ys 5 seems to require this. Hmm. Added a hack to support both games.
So what are you waiting for? Go get it at our SNES emu page

Also for this I took the time to make a new section on DMD =) It is the Commodore C16-Plus/4 Emulators section. Enjoy.
10/07/2000 - Jum52 0.5a [Posted by DtK]

Enjoy the new version of Jum52 which you can pick up at our Atari 5200 emu page.

10/07/2000 - MAME32 Q/A updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
MAME32Q/A's website has been updated with couple of news
"00.10.06 Ok people no need to keep posting about Sega16, Toaplan, etc. drivers not working, as mentioned in the whatsnew.txt of MameDOS they aren't converted to the new memory system yet. So if you get an error that claims you don't have all the roms in Mame32, that's the problem. Update: the boys sweep the Chicago White Sox."
10/07/2000 - Sintendo Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
BAD NEWS from Sintendo!! Noo!!! Here is the post
"Unfortunately, Sintendo still crashes. I underestimated the problem and unfortunately, now, on the deadline, I still lack a completely functioning product. Against my better judgement, however, I will still release a Sintendo beta version today, with the following caveat: It doesn't work! You can see some title screens and maybe play a little, but very few games are fully functioning. Thus far, we have found four: Prince of Persia, Super Offroad, TMNT 4, and Earthworm Jim 2. There are probably more but we obviously can't test them all.
:( GRRR!!! I hope he gets it working! That would be SWEEET :)
Again, Sintendo beta v0.01 does not work. If you burn it, don't even think about complaining to me about it. Constructive critism is very welcome, but don't start a "man Sintendo sucks" rampage on the open internet just because a very early beta version doesn't work...because it doesn't and I told you that.
There is good news. To better test which games work and which games don't (and to try to get an idea why its not working), I implemented some menu code which now works quite well. Currently, Sintendo supports up to 128 ROMs in a directory called "SNES", though this number will increase later and include subdirectories. The menu code will help keep you from having to re-burn over and over again and should actually add some enjoyment to an otherwise useless emulator.
The release will be posted some time before 12 midnight EST. It will include a menu and a reasonable frameskip will be implemented (resonable meaning all games will run at full speed, but some of the slower games will be noticably jurky). Almost every element of Sintendo is slated to be improved in later versions. Obviously, the bug will be fixed and another version will be out soon. The menu code will be improved to utilize the bitmaps noted on the "Graphics" page of this site. The frameskip, though it may require some time, will hopefully soon be a thing of the past as I intend to use every means possible to get Sintendo running at full speed.
The source code will also be available at the time of the release. Perhaps someone will be able to look at it and figure out where Sintendo is going wrong. I will also try to give you guys a better idea of the future plans for Sintendo and the order I intend to implement them in (though subject to change).
That's all for now... It's early here and I've got to go to bed. Release by midnight; barring an unbelievable miracle, it won't work.

10/07/2000 - Jagulator Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Jagular also kind of returned!! here is the post
"Welcome to the *Temporary* home of the Jagulator Project site. Once several problems have been resolved with the ISP then the project site will move to its proper home at http://www.jagulator.com.
As many of you know, a few days ago (30th September) the first 'development alpha' release of Jagulator was released to the public (v1.3.1(da)). The aim of this was to show that Jaguar emulation *is* possible and that it is progressing. Since the release, things have been progressing really fast and another public release is expected soon.
In addition to the site/project relaunch, you can also find independant Jagulator project information at the official alpha/beta test site (http://www.atari-jaguar.de - also available on the Links Page). This site is hosted by experienced Jaguar developer Lars Hannig, who is currently testing the software as it develops.
Anyway, release 1.3.3(da) is now going back and forth between myself and alpha testers (see Release Notes on the Project Menu to see what is currently completed/under development). Briefly, the most important thing to be completed was correct emulation of the Vertical Blank interrupt which allows the boot rom to progress further through its boot sequence. This involved an upgrade of the StarScream core to get better interrupt emulation on the 68000. FPS speed is increasing as well due to new 'Single Pass' Object Processor emulation code. The current version displays graphics in wireframe mode (which sounds strange for a 2D system but it does help tremendously with debugging), with the texture mapping re-implemented in the next day or so.
I'd like to thank all those, past and present, in the Atari Community who have helped and continue to support this project."
10/07/2000 - More on Jagulator [Posted by DtK]
I didn't see the link to the *temporary* Jagulator site in the last post so here it is: http://www.emugaming.com/jagulator.
Also if you check out the site and look in the screenshots and status section you'll see they have been updated to 1.3.3(da) =)
10/07/2000 - DreamSNES 0.9 for Dreamcast!! [Posted by DtK]
Wow! Extremely soon we can expect Sintendo, i.e. Super Nintendo on the Dreamcast but well I just found this, it's DreamSNES and today was the first release, the author describes it best:
"This is the first public release. Most stuff works, but it's still pretty slow. Expect around 50% speed in most cases. The background music for the menu has been disabled as it didn't work properly, sorry. Don't download this version if you want a really playable system, it's more for the curious who don't mind wasting a CD-R on playing around with a beta."
This is great! Feel free to pick up DreamSNES on our SNES emu page and be sure to visit the site for any specific instructions and/or screenshots!
10/07/2000 - Project51 - Not a government secret... [Posted by DtK]
A new NES emulator has been in the works and it is called Project51. Already this looks to be promising and I can see it going far. Here is the current status:
Numerous screenshots are available on the website which you should check out. Look for more on Project51 in the future.
10/08/2000 - Sintendo Beta v0.02 [Posted by DtK]
Ok well Beta v0.01 of Sintendo came out and it had that 'nasty' bug that made it crash. Apparently it was the transparency problem and well it's fixed and emulation speed is up because of it. On the homepage you will see numerous screenshots of one of, if not the best games ever, Chrono Trigger!! Anyhow here is what Sin had to say:
"You guys better get your multi-sessions ready, because this version works! I discovered the problem and it has been fixed; by accident actually. I disabled transparencies to see if it would improve the emulation speeds, and tried it out on Castlevania IV. A few minutes into the game and I accidently fell in the water. Anyone who's played it on Sintendo knows that that just isn't possible. Now it is!
The emulation speed is noticably faster as well (not yet full speed). There is one negative side to this, however. Transparencies don't work. It is noticeable from time to time but shouldn't have any real bearing on gameplay (with a few exceptions). This will be fixed when I work on improving the emulation speed."
Well enough chit chat I guess you can get Sintendo at our SNES emu page.
10/09/2000 - A new TR64 [Posted by DtK]
True Reality or TR64 has seen a new release today after some time ;) For those not familiar with this project, it is an N64 emulator for windows opengl. The authors have done some good work and while there is not an official changes list included here is what Icepir8 had to say about this release:
"Here the TR64 release you've all been waiting for. It is not Fast. But it is a lot more compatible then TRWin-GL was. FRES has added Adaptoid support(works great :)). Many thanks to Wishtech for the Adaptoids. You will need their driver to use the Adaptoid with TR64. Thanks goes to Spinal for his work on the ini file. Sorry no sound at this time. But we will be working on adding it soon.
Go to downloads to get the release."
You can pick up TR64 at our N64 emu page.
10/09/2000 - ePSXe crowd pleaser =) [Posted by DtK]
More screenshots from the ePSXe team, they put up a bunch of sports games shots because well they were in demand. I cannot wait for this emulator.
Please visit the ePSXe webpage @ www.epsxe.com
10/09/2000 - TOSBox 1.10a [Posted by DtK]
A new version of TOSBox the AtariST emulator has been out. This is as the author says a 'minor maintenance release'. In this version is "a bugfix affecting GFA BASIC 3.x's end of file test".
You can pick up the latest version of TOSBox at our AtariST Emu Page.
10/09/2000 - New Impact Screenshots? [Posted by DtK]
It looks like Impact is back and has some amazing new screenshots! No details whatsoever are given just 3 screenshots of arcade games. From what reports are saying is that the screens are "Dynamite Deka" (Japanese) and a new "Strider" game. They appear (by the GUI) to be running under Linux.
Check the website here for a look.
10/09/2000 - RockNES 1.400 [Posted by DtK]
One of, in my opinion, the better NES emulators RockNES sees version 1.400 today! There are some nice changes in this, but enough babbling here they are:
Looks good! You can pick up RockNES at our NES emu page.
10/09/2000 - Charles MacDonald's Page updates [Posted by DarkMazda]
Charles MacDonald's Sega System 24's page has been updated today!!
"I might put up some screenshots of the Sega System 24 emulator in action soon. At the moment, I have the inputs working, the two lamps mapped to the keyboard LEDs, and the palette for the background layer partially working - I'm not entirely sure how the palette is allocated between the sprites, background, and whatever else. I've also figured out where the sprite patterns and attributes are stored.
Coo Coo!! :)
What's weird is that there's a large chunk of memory that sits between the object generator, and the mixer chip (which takes data and looks up palette entries while the display is scanned, for each pixel). Now that I've determined it's not intended to store sprite patterns, it's use is more of a mystery.
I'm beginning to think this is the framebuffer hinted at in the System 24 flyer, since there would be enough memory for two 512x384 8-bit screens. Maybe a double-buffered system is used. Given the large on-screen sprite capacity, I'm guessing that they are drawn to the framebuffer instead of having the object generator sort through all 2048 sprite attributes for every single scanline.
It would be very cool if either of the CPU's had direct access to the framebuffer beyond just being able to draw sprites. And if I'm right about this, it should be really interesting to see how it can be emulated without compromising speed. Anyway, I guess that's enough for now. :) "
Oh yeah
HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!
10/09/2000 - Pretendo Coming back!? [Posted by DarkMazda]
Pretendo's website has been updated with still a blank page with this text
"for the multitudes of thoughtless clones have reached a critical mass
Does this mean that they are coming back with a new layout?! :) We will find out soon!!
It's time for a re-design. "

Feel free to pick up Steem at our Atari ST emu page.
10/09/2000 - Jagulator news! [Posted by DtK]
Wow this Jagulator thing is getting exciting. RealityMan is a coding machine..anyhow if you check out the Jagulator Tester Page which RealityMan has provided us with a link for it was updated today! Here is the news:

"Today I got a new test version of Jagulator and it can already run some programs. This version of Jagulator has texture mapping for 2D gfx turned on again. This screenshot shows how it runs my "JDC Demo V1" program. (It scales the JDC Logo) As you can see it has still problems to display the colors (RGB 16-Bit) properly.
Some people didn't belive that the Jaguar can be emulated and that Jagulator was real, but this is the prove that Jagulator is really emulating the first 64-Bit video game system, the incredible Atari Jaguar."
Very nice news! This screenshot is a great improvement from the last which was basically a wireframe box shot. Visit the "temporary" Jagulator page @ http://www.emugaming.com/jagulator.
10/09/2000 - Jag Drag [Posted by DtK]
I have taken a few to make a Jaguar emu page. Right now it just has the current release of Jagulator and hopefully more to come! Enjoy..
10/10/2000 - Even more on Jagulator [Posted by DtK]
The "temporary" Jagulator website has been updated with news regarding the running demo which I had posted below. More progress since that last screenshot I showed ya and even more now. Here is RealityMan's post:
"Jagulator has been progressing well over the last few days and it is near fully running its first demo. JDC (Jaguar Development Club) Demo v1, coded by Lars Hannig, now displays the title screen and zooms into view the JDC Logo. There are couple of minor bugs to quash and then the demo will fully run with Joypad support also.
The running of demo's is new functionality that I have added into the debugger. Whereas a standard game cartridge will load itself according to the embedded program counter etc, demo rom loads need to specifically identify the address space they occupy. For example, the JDC Demo v1 needs to be loaded at address 0x004000."
The screenshots no longer show RGB errors and can be found on his homepage. Enjoy the shots because it is amazing how far this has gone.
10/10/2000 - Europe gets bleem! [Posted by DtK]
If you lived in Europe and wanted to get bleem! you had to pay an outrageous shipping cost. Well the makers of bleem! have changed this and you can pick up bleem! for local prices. So all you guys and girls in Europe headover to bleem.com and pick yourself up a copy of this great Playstation emulator.
Also while we are mentioning bleem! the question has come up of whether the PC version will be continued or not. A few weeks back I decided to ask (via email) whether or not it was discontinued and the response I got was it was only temporary on hold while bleem!cast was being coded. Once bleem!cast is out the PC version will pick back up.
10/10/2000 - Apollo64 Updates! [Posted by DtK]
Well after a week or two of silence from Apollo64 we have some good news for this N64 project and here it is:
"After all this terrible news I have some good news to report. Phrodide and I are both back to work. Yes Phrodide too. He left one of his jobs which freed some time from his schedule. He is taking over the graphics plugin portion of Apollo while I am working on the main executable. You can expect a lot more to happen now. Definately a release before Thanksgiving is possible. I will start by hunting down the infamous CPU bug and/or making a new CPU completely. Best of luck to Phrodide in his new task. Thanks to everyone for their supportive comments."
10/10/2000 - SwNES v0.25 [Posted by DtK]
A new version of the Windows NES emulator SwNES has been released. It comes in update format so you must get previous version (0.20) then apply this to it. Here is what's new in this release:
Both the previous full version and the new upgrade are available at our NES emu page.
10/10/2000 - DarcNES DOS Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
DarcNES DOS's website has been updated with some Progress
"I've tried to run DarcNES on my notebook (486 DX 50 + 8 MB RAM) and found that it doesn't work. It quits when it fails initializing the sound card (since there's no sound card). Guess I'll have to fix this :). And talking about fixing things, I've fixed the date on the past 4 postings on this site. I've forgot to use the U.S. format (mm/dd/yy) instead of the Brazilian one (dd/mm/yy). "
Note to DtK: I must say DtK is doing a great job!!! Keep it up DtK

A new version of gleam! came out today. This is the NES emulator for your Dreamcast! This is version 101000, appropriatly titled by the date. Many great changes as such:
Those are some great changes. You can pick up the file from our NES emu page. I have put it in zip format, opposed to the .tar format it was provided in. This is so most users can deal with it easier. Enjoy!
10/10/2000 - Final Burn Progress.. [Posted by DtK]
Final Burn which all should know by now is being worked on to emulate Galaxy Force II. Dave has posted 2 screenshots on finalburn.com to show his progress. The only trouble now is that some colors are wrong and input is not working yet. Good luck Dave!
10/10/2000 - Interview with Dreamer author [Posted by DtK]
Emulatronia the other day posted an interview witht the author of Dreamer, the only Dreamcast emulator. Due to a language barrier many of us were not able to read that interview =( Unless you read spanish..
But I have made a rough translation of it using an automated translator. I in no way take credit for this interview. The original of which can be view here. If you would like to view the rough translation of this interview please do so here:
Rough Translation of Interview with Dreamer Author
Thank you and enjoy. Remember I did not do the interview and if emulatronia is in anyway offended I will be more than willing to remove this.
10/11/2000 - Another new RockNES! [Posted by DtK]
Well the RockNES project has been rather busy lately. Just 2 days ago version 1.400 and now version 1.410. This like the other has some nice features making it well worth downloading. Here is the changes list:
Feel free to pick up this release at our NES emulator page. Enjoy!
10/11/2000 - Sintendo update! [Posted by DtK]
I'm sure everyone still is playing Sintendo beta 0.02 I know I am! This amazing emulator (SNES on Dreamcast) is making some more progress. The author Sin updated his site today with this news:
"I haven't updated in a few days, figure its time. I'm working on the in-game menu. I know it's driving you nuts and it does me too. I'm sorry, guys. I'm working on it, but having a little difficulty both programmably and personally. I'll get it running when I can. I'm hoping I will be able to do something with improving the menus or the emulation at the same time. If I try it and its not very problematic, then maybe some saving too. I'm tired of long intros that they never intended you to see every time because you're supposed to be able to save. I'll see what I can get done in what time and I'll release whatever I feel good about letting out to the public. I hope and I'm sure you hope that this means soon. I don't plan on letting it go to long, however. I should have something within a week, maximum.
Until then, enjoy it or put it down. I'll have a new version out soon."
That is good news. I personally cannot wait for another release of Sintendo. Next on my wish list is sound!
10/11/2000 - Easter egg on Final Burn site! [Posted by DtK]
Something that everyone has overlooked including myself until today was the mp3 posted on finalburn.com. Dave updated putting pics of Final Burn running Galaxy Force II but in the second picture there is a link to an mp3. I downloaded it titled beyond.mp3 and listened to it. Sounds like some theme music to a song. Though with the title beyond.mp3 it could be Galaxy Force II or another game? I'm not sure...
10/11/2000 - SNEeSe 0.49 [Posted by DtK]
A new version of SNEeSe, the SNES emulator for DOS has been released. Here is what's new:
You can pick up the new version of SNEeSe from our SNES emu page.
10/11/2000 - MAME w.i.p update! [Posted by DtK]
Lately I've been trying a lot of new things in emulation =) Last time I used Mame was well over a year ago and I'm happy to say I recently got the latest edition. Anyhow I digress. The Mame W.I.P. page has been updated with the following good news:
11th October 2000: smf submitted some MAME debugger fixes.
10th October 2000: Phil Stroffolino sent in a Sega System16 update and added After Burner 1 & 2 support thanks to Dave.
9th October 2000: Yochizo re-applied the Toaplan2 driver updates, and fixed the YM2151 interface to be 16-bit.
Yes that is Dave from the Final Burn project. Also you don't want to miss this page because it has some nice screen shots of After Burner II =)
10/11/2000 - Virtual Game Station 1.41 [Posted by DtK]
Are you a Virtual Game Station owner? Well then your in luck because Connectix has updated their playstation emulating software to version 1.41 for both the PC and Mac. Unfortunately DMD cannot provide a demo for this. You will have to go to connectix.com for one.
Enjoy your updated versions of VGS..
10/11/2000 - More Final Burn Progress [Posted by DtK]
As I had posted before Galaxy Force II was the next title being worked on for the Final Burn emulator. Well the page has been updated with new screens that fix most of the colors. Also the note about input not working is gone! The only thing Dave mentions is that some graphics are corrupt. Check out those screens!
10/11/2000 - A little note about RCP [Posted by DtK]
RCP an emulator author that we know from TRWin and KIAME has been diagnosed with a brain tumor =( Luckily, the tumor is benign (i.e. not harmful now). He will be undergoing some surgery tomorrow and I hope we all can be thinking of him. Let's hope for the best in his surgery =)

10/13/2000 - 1964 Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
1964's website has been updated with some news
"'Hey all. Here's the scoop:
Woohoo new release on Sunday :)
We're getting back into the swing (slang) (sling?) again. 1964 v0.5.1 will be released this Sunday.
What to expect from 0.5.1:
The start of register caching:
Register caching is done to improve speed. If you have an interest in learning about what is involved with this approach and are eager to see a working implementation with source code, then Sunday's build is for you. Or, if you're simply a speed nut like me and like to see Mario run fast, it'll be worth grabbing the binary. Again, I have basically just started some register caching, so expect speed to again continue to improve in future builds.
What not to expect from 0.5.1:
Improved compatibility: (Only so much time in the day!)
Save-state/eeprom: Remember, I'm a moron and have yet to get it to work, but it is a high priority."
10/13/2000 - RockNES Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
RockNES's website has been updated with a quote
"Windowed in a Sunday... "
Does this mean a new release on Sunday!?!?!? We shall wait and see!
10/13/2000 - Pretendo is back!!! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Pretendo's website is FINALLY BACK!! WOoho!! Here is the BIG BIG POst
"Hey all. It's me Delta here, and I must say, it's nice to be back. This update is a long one, so throw on some coffee or something, or else leave if you don't feel the need to read all of it. A lot has happened since the last update, so I'll try and sum it up, touching on the important details. Everybody has probably been wondering what happened to Pretendo over the past few weeks/months. The answer to that is 'nothing'. That's right, until very recently, neither PrOxY, nor myself have worked on Pretendo at all. I could probably ramble on for another six or so pages about _why_ nothing has happened, but that would be completely boring, and conterproductive on my part. Basically, the bottom line is that Pretendo is now alive and kicking, period. We just needed a break from NES emlulation, that's all. Now, this is a tad off-topic, but some of you may still be wondering as to what the significance of the quote I posted on 08 October. Surely if you've been following the whole 'NES emulator scene' you might know what it means... think about it for a while. For those who have forgotten, the quote is as follows: 'for the multitudes of thoughtless clones have reached a critical mass' Well, basically, the quote is saying that there are too many shitty NES emulators out there ruining the nostalgia. That's how I feel, and that's how the 'NES emulator scene' is looking from my standpoint. Score Delta. Okay, anyways, here is the deal with Pretendo (the part of the update you've _really_ been waiting for). Upset with the Pretendo 0.20 (Windows) codebase, I have taken it upon myself to rewrite Pretendo from _scratch_ (that makes three rewrites I think...). I started the rewrite two or three weeks ago, and its progress is creeping along rather quickly. Pretendo is being developed under BeOS 5, using gcc and NASM. Note, I am maintaining _only_ the BeOS version. Lucky for all, the new NES core (minus some assembly routines, which have C counterparts anyway) is completely portable C++. This means that we should see Pretendo running on many operating systems. Not to worry, PrOxY is going to be maintaing a Win32 port, which too, will be all new code. So as not to be hypocritical, we are making sure that Pretendo does not end up in the multitude of thoughtless clones. We intend to release a very stable, very accurate, and very compatible NES emulator for various platforms, even if speed is a sacrifice. If Pretendo winds up being too CPU-intensive for your PC, then it is probably time for you to get a new one. The new NES core is significantly smaller, and thus faster than the old one, so most users shouldn't have any problems. Okay, so you probably want to know when the next version is coming out. As usual, I can't say exactly. But I'll share some information about the status. Currently, the PPU is completely emulated, minus sprite rendering, and colour intensity/monochrome junk. The CPU interface needs a bit more work, but is functional. There is no APU core yet, as I haven't written it, and only NROM (iNES mapper 0) games are supported. Right now Pretendo is a bare bones NES emulator with heaps of debug code! Some more work will fix that, and lead to a new release. Now doesn't that sound good? I'm actually quite enjoying this re-write, as it is going along smoothly and somewhat quickly, but most important, I am _very_ satisfied with the codebase now. Okay, now some news regarding my situation. I'll try and keep this short, but who knows. If anyone recalls, I had left the 'scene' quite a few months ago due to personal problems. Well, college rolled around at the end of August, and I thought it would serve as a remedy to these problems. Since my life is engorged with irony, college only made me realise how serious my problems were. As a result, I had decided I needed to take the year off and work out my problems, instead of running from them. I have been home for a week already, and I'm happy to say that there finally seems to be a light at the end of a previously dark tunnel. Of course being at home when I should ideally be at school comes with a price. Starting in about two weeks, I will be working fulltime doing Java and C++ programming. This means ofcourse that I won't have as much time to devote to Pretendo, and NES development as I currently do, but I will try my best to make time for these things as I enjoy them very much. Now a bit about PrOxY. Though not working on Pretendo at all during the past few weeks, he has been keeping busy with a project of his own, which you may or may not have heard of. It's called Fakestation, and if you haven't a thing for the obvious, it's a Playstation Emulator. It's being developed under Linux, and is completely portable, so naturally, I will be porting it to BeOS. Fakestation is still in it's early stages, but the R3k is fully emulated by an interpretive CPU core. Fakestation is rapidly progressing, and will soon show the infamous BIOS screen. This is definitely a project to follow. Learn more by visiting PrOxY's personal page. Right. Well, hopefully I covered everything I wanted to in this epic of an update. If you're still here, thanks for reading. Pretendo is back!!! "
Welcome back Pretendo!
10/13/2000 - Hu-Go Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Hu-Go's website has been updated with some news
"I had a school project until today. Futhermore, I've lost my HD last saturday.
Nothing important (just several pc engine demos, I'll have to code a bit to reach the same level) since I had a copy of important sources.
Anyway, that was the occasion to realize I had to keep things in a safer way. I discovered CVS, a wonderful tool for source revisionning and the ability to work at several people at the same time and to share sources trought the internet.
So I was wondering if I could eventually use my machine as a server for source sharing all the time I could be online (currently 2-4h a day, from 6 p.m. GMT)...
This way, people could grab latest sources anyway they'd like and even contribute...
Anyway, I'll now use this system for avoiding breaking the sources before a release e.g.
After having talked about my recent life, let's change of subject ...
With several friends, we were thinking about the need for a pc engine ezine... That's a reason why I hadn't worked on Hu-Go! recently.
So we have space, we have some scripts to handle this easily. We just lack design and a motivated people who could write down articles about all stuff around the pc engine (tests, cheat, history, anything ....) so if you're a pc engine fan wanting to give an hand, don't hesitate to write a mail.
Ok, it's now time for me to get back to Hu-Go! coding ... :)"
10/13/2000 - Mimic Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]
Mimic's website has been updated with a new layout... well not really new layout but no more frames!! Looks much better!! Here is the post
"My subdomain is finally back up :) Oh well, back to work, I guess.
I decided to change around the pages a bit to get rid of the frames and to allow Netscape users to access them (hey, can I help it if Netscape doesn't comply with HTML 4.0 ?).
I will do a new release either today or tomorrow to get out that new SMS stuff. I discovered that Solomon's Key doesn't load becuase PKUNZIP can't fit into memory, but if you extract all of the files first, it works...hmmm... I may have to have an option to extract a whole archive before the HWC interpret.
I wrote my first all Visual C program yesterday. Granted it was nothing worth writing home about, but it dispelled a few myths for me. I also noticed that the 286 had a protected mode that allowed it to access 16Mb of RAM !!! I tried this but it was so damn slow that I decided against it (Mimic is slow enough as is).
I also may write a SMS rom tool to identify and clean up roms...hmmm..... "

10/13/2000 - RomCenter Updates [Posted by DarkMazda]
RomCenter has been updated with some news about the RomCenter2
"Now, some news from RomCenter 2.
Please visit RomCenter for some screenshots
The new version is a complete rewrite. It took almost one year to write it, and it should be ready for as first release before the end of the year. I'm actually in testing stage. I try to figure all possible roms problems to ensure a very good stability (more than 280 tests actually...).
Most important improvement in version 2.0 is the ability to show directly your roms as they appear on the disk with their status. The old database view is also available. The software is still freeware, but an ads banner will be included.
Among other news, you will find: Full windows install/uninstall, zipped datafile support, archive directory, zip/directory/files handling, five repair functions, explorer-like view, separate scan window, custom roms flags (for color-blinded people), new datafile 2.0 with full support of latest mame releases, compatibility with 1.9x datafiles and other new I don't remember now...
Some features will also not be available in the first version (like report), but I prefer doing a first release quickly, and then gathering remarks and idea before going further."

The hallmark of a great SX contributor is one that continues to upload after getting into the Saturn or SegaCD sections. I am proud to say that most of these uploads are from such individuals. My heartfelt thanks to all uploaders. "

A new version of nester an NES emulator for windows has been released. I was rather impressed with the first release in august and I'm even more impressed with this. Try it! Anyhow a quick what's new and quote from the author:
"Yes, most of the changes from the unofficial version of nester will be rolled into nester, and will be included in an official release as soon as nester reaches a stable state again. If you want an experimental, cutting-edge version of nester, use an unofficial copy. If you want a version that's more likely to be stable, use the official version."
