Hu-Go site has been updated with some news! He couldn't release the new version of Hu-Go, here is the post

I currently have a problem with my development machine monitor so I've not been able to code more than 30 minuts during two weeks. I can also say I'll offer some isos through another site than romhq. There's nothing done yet but it should be at rcroms. I think more and more it's time to code a gui. I think it should be skinable. Tell me if you have any idea or suggestion, what other gui you like or not, etc.. so that i'll try to make something nice.

Please visit Hu-Go now :)

11/01/1999 - MAME releases. [Posted by DarkMazda]

Two New Mame releases were released! Here they are

  1. Emu+ version .36b8 is released!

  2. Joy MAME version .36b8 is released! Here is what is new
    • - The mouse buttons can be toggled to be either distinct buttons or
    • to duplicate Joystick 1's buttons. This is an option in the Analog Axis
    • menu. That should make things easier for people who want the mouse to
    • work with their default assignments.
    • - The mouse axes can be set from the Analog Axis menu to map to any
    • player and axis. This helps in two particular situations: It allows you
    • to rotate the mouse and swap the X and Y axes, and it lets people build
    • 2-players controls that physically connect to the mouse X and Y axes.
    • - Allows you to save all of the analog settings, at least globally.
    • They are then automatically reloaded on startup.

Please pick these two up at the MAME Emu Section. Thanks goes to the Author of EMU+ for the news for the EMU+.

11/02/1999 - KGB updates [Posted by DarkMazda]

KGB site has been updated also! Here is what he posted

Well yes.. here I am again in the middle of my exams.. so that means that, yes, i've been doing a little bit of work on KGB once more. Haven't really achieved that much.. hehe.. :o) and there's no new release yet, but anyway.. I thought it'd been a while since an update so here it is...

Ok so whats changed? Well.. I finally found the bug that was causing Pokémon and quite a few other games to crash.. stupid thing.. um.. also I've fixed the instant save states.. they looked like they were saving an important value when they actually weren't.. so that should be working fine now also. I increased the maximum ROM size to 32mbits so that Grand Theft Auto will be able to run. A few new controls and things added to the new GUI, but I still have a fair bit to do on it before I can release something useable by you fine intelligent people.. heheh.. just kidding.. :o)

Now the one that everyone wants.. internet linked play.. ok.. I had a first attempt at it and proved to myself that, yes, the way i first came up with was far too slow. So I've had a little think and come up with a new method, but that'll have to wait till after exams (last one on this thursday!! woohoo!! ^_^ ) to be tried out..

I still need help with adding sound. If anyone is experienced with sound programming under Delphi, or has programmed sound for an emulator before, then I'd really appreciate any help you could give.

Please get more info, or help him at the KGB Website

It looks like Apollo69 has been interviewed, here is what they posted on NeoGeo Home

If you had to chose the best emu project done until now, what would be your choice?
A tough one.. I love NeoRAGEX and MAME equally, only because I an a Neo Geo Freak. Followed by Raine, and then the more specific emus, such as KGEN and SNES. I have bleem!, but I haven't even looked at it (since Metal Slug and Last Blade PSX didn't work properly).

Finally can you anticipate something big to the big end of the Interview? :)
I have a feeling the next release of NeoRAGEX is going to rock!

11/03/1999 - New 3DO Emulator [Posted by DarkMazda]

There is a new 3DO emulator out there called "3DOpen" Here is what they posted on tgheir website about this emulator

In truth, the 3DO is not a terribly complex piece of hardware - certainly no more so than some other consoles of its class that have already been emulated. Additionally, this project starts with a fully-functional ARM cpu emulator (see status for more info) which will not only provide the basis for the final emulator, but will serve as an invaluable investigative tool into the workings of the system.

Naturally, the goal is to emulate a 3DO sufficiently that any available 3DO software product can be played successfully. The current target is an x86 PC, most likely with some type of 3D accelorator, and either Windows or Linux.

Please visit their Official Site at http://www.flatearthmultimedia.com/3dopen/. This might become one of the first 3DO Emulators out there! :)

11/03/1999 - FF8 Fix with GFs :P [Posted by DarkMazda]

It looks like that PSXEmu Website has posted a way to kinda fix your GF problems with FF8 on Bleem! Here is what they have posted

I have posted this earlier but not in its own post. This works every time I've tried it. If bleem stops during a gf call WAIT for a long time... close to 5 minutes and it will start working again. Be careful to watch because you may come back and find yourself dead. If its been a long time since your last save this a great way to keep from reduing it all.
Added:
This is just my observation, but GF's tend to stop only on bosses and semi bosses. And casting GF's repeatedly in the same combat will not cause a crash either. Also they don't necissarily happen every time on a boss.
[This message has been edited by EB (edited November 01, 1999).]

Please visit PSXEmu for their wonderful effort :)

11/03/1999 - Pokemon? [Posted by DarkMazda]

J-e-Z, a staff from EmuTech2000, has posted a post that he wants Pokemon to DIE!!! Look at the post

What is happening to this world?? I'll tell you what is happening it is being taken over by POKEMON!! Let's see we have Pokemon Cards, Toys, Games, T.V. shows, Videos, Watches, Beanies, Callenders and thats only what i have seen. These damn thigns are driving me insane i'll i hear when i enter school is can i swap my Charizard for your Wartortle and these are 13 and 14 year olds. About the only place i get away from them is when i am having a shower! There must be about 10,000,000 sites about each Pokemon and how cool they are. Pokemon are gonna destroy this world's children if they all wanna see how good the Pokemon are. People will be rushing into emulation for gameboy emulators, Leaching roms, Begging and destroying the art behind Emulation. Soon there will be about 80 different GameBoy emulators being sold for $90 that are basicly rips off a GNU project. Destorying Emulation as we know it, great but having bad sides.

I will end this post by saying that if you have any Pokemon s**t! Burn it at the stake before Bulbasaur is the president of the U.S.A and squirtle is the Queen.

I guess some part of it, I want Pokemon to go away also. I personally agree with this statement with J-e-Z. People might be taken over by Pokemons and die with pokemon in their blood heheh :) Please discuss about these at the Message Boards

11/03/1999 - BleemBoost Update! [Posted by RpgRealm]

BleemBoost v0.2 has been released. BleemBoost is a program that allows you to run bleem with almost all your resources. Thus improving performance. Here's a quote from the page:

BleemBoost! 0.2 installer updated. All issues dealing with dlls are now solved. If you already have 0.2 working fine, you don't need this one.

I am starting to program an add-on to Bleem! called BleemSwitch. It will allow you to save settings for each game. With BleemSwitch you won't need to got to options and change settings each time, the options will be loaded with a single click.

You can get it at the Playstation section.

11/03/1999 - SMS and Genesis Power Updates! [Posted by RpgRealm]

SMS Power has released Marko's Magic Football for SMS. Here is what Zoop had to say about the game:

Here is (finally) an original game: Marko's Magic Football for the Game Gear. Although it has a weird gameplay and absolutly no musics (heh, did they even finished doing the game?) it uses a concept you won't find in a lot of game. It is basically a platform game where you control a young soccer player with his magic ball, so a variety of moves and attack are done using it.

Also Genesis Power has released Mighty Max for the Sega Genesis making it Genesis release #12.

11/03/1999 - New Section at DMD [Posted by Omega]

Here are some Pages updates that occured recently

  1. RockNES Site has been updated with some new screenshots from the upcoming version .982! Please check them out at RockNES

  2. 3DOpen has been updated also with this post!

First off - a heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited the site in it's first day (over 4,000 accesses!), and especially to everyone who took the time to drop me an e-mail. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement.

If you've written me, I will respond. I did recieve a lot of messages, so I'm a little backed up, but I promise to get to them all.

As for the technical side of things, I've pretty much abandoned the idea of using Glide. A few people suggested OpenGL, so I'm off to do a little research. I've also started deciphering the 3DO CD-ROM format (or, more exactly, the contents of a typical 3DO CD-ROM); that's the project du'jour.

Again, thanks to everyone who took the time to contact me. With all the support I'm receiving, this is bound to be a successful project.

    Please visit 3Dopen

SMS Power has released two more ROMs today. They are Great Volleyball and The Circuit. Here's what Zoop has to say about them:

Two new Japanese alternate versions today.. these are not really new games, but dump from Japanese cartridges of already released games. The games are Great Volleyball and The Circuit, which is the game we know as World Grand Prix. Otherwise, the game seems to be the same. It's up to you to find the (probable) little differences between the two versions. If you can find anything feel free to post on the forum to let us know!

  2. RockNES site has been updated with some news.

Believe! Ok guys, RockNES will have a GUI in the next release, maybe not as "nice" as NESticle does, but enough for your enjoyment. It will be improved with the time. Currently, I used Allegro´s GUI functions.
Other thing: I´m receiving questions like "I have a with , etc, and your emulator is very slow, why?". Well, did you read the docs? Probably, you haven´t a VESA mode avaliable! Use the option "-oldblit" or try Scitech Soft (look for Scitech Display Doctor). That´s all.

Please cool news isn't it?? Please visit their
    Site

11/07/1999 - New Back in time show :) [Posted by DarkMazda]

I just recieved an email from the webmaster of Back in time Show, about the new show, here is the email

The new episode of the Back In Time webcast has been posted. This episode marks the second anniversary of the Back In Time web site.

Many gaming companies have been jumping on the "classic gaming" bandwagon this year. Hasbro Interactive has been making use of their Atari brand by re-releasing such titles as Pong, Tetris, and Missile Command.

This episode is very special, as it was recorded at the Atari offices located at Hasbro Interactive. My guest on this episode is Rich Cleveland, the head of marketing for the Atari division of Hasbro Interactive. Rich and I discuss all of their new "classic" titles, including Q*Bert, Pong, and the new 3D Arena Blast game which is based on the Unreal engine. Rich talks quite a bit about the creative process that goes into recreating the classic games. He also goes into some detail on all of the projects that are in the works for next year. These titles have not been announced publicly yet, and Back In Time has the EXCLUSIVE news. Can anyone say "Galaga?"

I also take a look at a few of the other "classic" games that have hit the store shelves over the last few months including Pac-Man World, and Space Invaders. Finally, I cover some classic pinball machines that I have recently added to my collection.

What's that? Emulators? Updates? Oh, Raine thingy... I remember - arcade games and stuff... Sorry, I haven't had a lot of free time recently, because I've been so busy starting a new job and finding a place to live. Here's a game I've never heard of, from a company I've never heard of - Shippu Mahou Daisakusen by Raizing. This is a 1994 game, kindly dumped by for us by J-Rom :). Its kinda cool, it's a cross between a shoot'em up and a racing game, but mainly it's a shoot'em up. The gfx are nice too. There is an english version called Kingdom Grand Prix, maybe someone can dump it?

Please visit Raine Website for more info :)

11/07/1999 - JagBag updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

SkulleateR has updated the JagBag website!

Update time !! As you can see, we have a new site layout, made by our newest Team-Member Colin Henry (thx man), isn´t it great ? I love those blue flames .....ok now to the important things...first of all, sorry to all you guys, who mailed me, and asked, if the JagBag project has been canceled....here´s the answer : NO, DEFINITELY NOT !!!! It is true, that the progress on the emu has been slowed down a bit, but there´s nothing to fear about, it´s my main project and will definitely continue. Todays status update is a bit difficult, cause it´s very confusion.....hey Jimbo, i wrote 7 e-mails, if your mail is down for some reason, PLEASE contact me via ICQ, ok ??? next thing important for me is, i begun working on the Blitter code and stopped, after Steve (look last update), wanted to join us and take care of that, so please send me a status update man. So I started to do a little rom-loader in the past and begun to implement the keyboard/gamepad code (hey its more difficult than i thought hehe). No changes have been made to the main CPU/GPU core. Next thing seems to be important for SOME guys out there....since i released SleepNES many mails asked me....will SleepNES continue, will THAT be my main Emu, or what....Yes, it WILL be continued, and NO, its NOT my main emu, i´m focussing on JagBag, i just wanted to release SleepNES for some reason, to get some input by you people out there. I also got some trouble with my Job (no money=no INet=no more Emu´s), so I decided to quit my Job as an application programmer, and I will develop some games in the future....That brings me to the next point of this update, I will goto Japan for three months next year and my goal is, to get this emu as far as possible BEFORE i will go over there, cause when i will start my work at this new Company, i think, it will be rather difficult to get something done for the emu ! Now something private at the end ..... hey folks, all that mailed me, all guys in the Emu Scene, all that believed in me.....stay tuned and THX for a lot of support....i love you guys, and..............keep emulating !!

Please visit JagBag :)

It looks like Raine website has been updated with some news! it looks like they got a new game working on Raine emulator. Here is the post

Another update? Hmm...must be coming down with the flu or something. Well this one is dedicated to the football fans across the world, it's time for Football Champ by Taito. This is a 1990 game, kindly dumped for us by Aracorn. Well what can I say...I remember feeding the local arcades coins to play this game long ago and it still after all this time is a fun game to play. I also updated the Wanted Games page, and added the Raizing games we want to emulate. If anyone has a Macross (Banpresto) board to loan let us know, we really want to emulate this shoot-em-up.

Please visit Raine Website for more info :)

11/08/1999 - UltraHLE for dummies updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

I updated the download section to include rtool and the glide2x.dll file from the Banshee reference drivers for users of Voodoo3 cards that were having graphic problems ( Thanks to Emul8tor #ultrahle for the file). The how to's section was also updated on how to use rtool to check to see if a rom is corrupt. Bugs/help section was updating with the fix for "error loading" problem. The intro section was updated a bit and the contact page.

I will be updating the compatibility section with game descriptions and screenshots when I recieve my new hard drive sometime this week. I will also post information on how you can help me with that.

11/10/1999 - Pagan Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Pagan Emulator page has been updated with some news here is the post

Thing is, I've started to work on Pagan again. Taking babysteps this time just to try and get it more compatible and that kind of stuff. I shut the project down due to the fact that I wanted to sort out some personal stuff and also 'cos Pagan was driving me nuts!.. All those early bugs and all that strange code I didn't have the energy to fix. But now that I've sorted out my personal issues and started up again it's actually quite fun, as it should be. Some things will change also, once I get some demos running I'll be releasing versions of Pagan as I go along (this also to increase compatibility). I think this is why I've had next to no (serious) response before. Oh, yeah.. almost forgot. I redesigned the site a bit, hope it's not too dreadful.. Please, do mail me your opinions on the layout, the LFE prog or Pagan itself.

The next release probably won't be out for a while, when it is, it will be something worth download as tradition holds with my versions.

11/10/1999 - NEStoy ver 1.7 [Posted by c003y]

NEStoy is a great NES ROM management utility. Some of
the things that have been updated include:

NEStoy now creates .cfg files. This file will be used to customize the program's directories.

Seperate directories for (eg:) US titles, Jap. titles, etc, are created on startup

No more .NE1 or .NE2 files! NEStoy wont move a file from the directory it originated from, to that same directory anymore. (A file with an extension like .NE1 or .NE2 is created when NESToy moves a file to a directory and a file with the same name already exists.)

More changes to improve NEStoy's file handling

Get the new version of NEStoy here

11/10/1999 - LOL Fake Rom Ripper.. [Posted by DarkMazda]

bwb from EmuHQ(Affiliate of DMD).. has informed me of this guy saying there is a Rom Ripper for DreamCast! LOL!!! Look at this post that the guy posted on his website

When the Nightmare emulator was released a few months ago the author didn't think to include a utility to create ROM files so nobody could actually use the emulator. I have been in contact with the creator of Nightmare and, with his help I have developed a program which converts Dreamcast game CD's into ROMs with the .GRE extension which Nightmare uses..

I think this is pretty funny. Since Nightware was a Trojan and DreamCast doesn't use CDs, it uses GDs I think, please visit this stupid guy's Website which is called, "The Dreamcast Rom Maker Page" and it says "DVD-ROM" LOL!!!! So funny!!! Laugh at this guy, email him etc.. etc. Thanks goes to bwb from EmuHQ. IF you have any great or funny news like this one, please feel free to contact us, We will try to post whatever you mail us other than Rom Requests :P

If you would like to Discuss about this issue, please visit the MessageBoards

11/12/1999 - Emu Page updaetes! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Here are some Emulation Page Updates

  1. 3DOpen site has been updated with some news! Here is the post

Made some good progress with the CD layout; thanks to everyone who wrote in. I also decided to re-visit the CPU Core emulator and build an alternate 'debug' version. This version logs various information about the operations it's performing; should be pretty useful in figuring other stuff out later, and in general debugging.

The first milestone, it seems, will to be able to read in and execute some 3DO code. I need to finish the debug version of the emulator, spend some more time with the CD-ROM format, and do some research on the 3DO BIOS.

Please visit 3DOpen webpage for more info.

  2. RetroFX Page has been updated also with some news Here is the post

We added some new candy. Check out the Gallery and Music sections to view 9 full size high-quality screen shots and a RealAudio clip of the rescored level 1 music, and.....(drum roll please)...a video clip of some level 1 gameplay ! (It's cropped around the player area to keep the framerate high, and filesize small. At least it's real-size, so you can truly see the sprites, rather than a full-screen video squished down into a small window.)

Please visit the RetroFX Website! Thanks goes to M1K3 for the Email.

11/12/1999 - RealityBoy updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

RealityBoy updates!! Here is the post

11/12/99 - Sorry the updates have been so slow! I have been working on reorganizing myself.

I began working on a document that I hope will be the definitive Virtual Boy programmers doc. So far i have transferred in all the info from my web site, including my original programmers documentation. In the process I also cleared out several bugs, and added in some of the missing info. I still need to finish out the details on Direct Screen Draws, Software reads of the Controller, Link Port I/O, Timer, Interrupts, Sound and System Initialization. After that I think this document will truly represent all that I know about the VB at this time. Later Im hoping to add in a complete description of the V810 processor and all its opcodes, since documentation on the V810 is so scarce.

I began looking into sound on the VB last night, I must take the time to thank Alberto Covarrubias for his excellent work on the finer details of sound. I think I understand how sound on the VB is working, but Im only planing on documenting it at this time. My emu is not multi threading, and sound processing would really gum up the smooth flow of the code at this time.

I still have had no luck in getting real code to run on the VB, I suspect that Im incorrectly writing to video memory during a display interrupt, I will begin disassembling some of the simpler programs in an attempt to figure out how they handle this.

Finally Scorch has put up a new VB page hear. And Ferry Groenendijk suggested (and I believe him) that Faceball is the pre release name of Space Squash, and Devil Busters turned into Jack Bros. Ill be noting this on my page.

Please visit the RealityBoy website. Thanks goes to Aprentiz from IRC for the news.

11/14/1999 - NEC PC9801 Section Added [Posted by ProtoCat]

The NEC PC9801 is a Japanese Computer based on Intel processors and such (9801 is a 286) but its software up to this point, was unusable on a Wintel boxes. Thats where emulation comes in. Now with programs such as ANEX86 and V98 we can emulate a pretty large chunk of the PC98 family software as developement slowed down after the 9801 line (Although they have ones based on Pentium IIs with custom Win9X operating systems now, go figure). Both ANEX86 and V98 have been updated recently, and they are here totally setup and awaiting games to play. ANEX86 is the preferred emulator by most although V98 can run some things ANEX86 cannot, just MUCH slower. Enjoy, as this platform is my favorite, probably because 90% of the games are Hentai games.

11/14/1999 - Hu-Go has been updated! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Hu-GO website has been updated also! Here is the post

Hu-Go! development is coming again. I've been lend a monitor two days ago and I will be able to resume working. Ultra big thanx to Tormod for having sent me another CD full of good stuff. Some time ago I would have never expected someone sending me things, then imagine two. :)

As for people asking for Dracula X hcd, I found one on consolemul I modified a bit. You can find it there. It appears that it doesn't work everywhere BUT it will soon (as for now, it worked well on 2 machines on 3, elsewhere there were no sound ).

About consolemul, you can find some nice isos there. You can also find ones at rcroms. Both of them are in french but it worth it. I found R-type complete Cd there and find it working, it made a little update to the compatibility list.
I've made a draft of what will be an Hu-Go! gui skin. It's not the final one but it gives a good idea of the size and so. You can check it if you want to make such a skin here.

Please visit Hu-GO Website Thanks goes to HUGoM for the news.

11/15/1999 - EmuAlliance Dies :( [Posted by DarkMazda]

It looks like NINTENDA has taken down EmuAlliance for good :( Here is the post he posted

Well that day everyone has prayed for is here, EmuAlliance.com is closing down. The future of the domain is unknown, but the NINTENDA's emualliance tabloid site is dead, Alby's playhouse is dead, the PSEMU leak site is dead. We're gone, Emualliance was around for less than one year, in it we had over a 150,00 hits to our site, 10,000 to Expert's Jackal page and about 200,000 total hits to our site and it's hosted pages. We've had about 20 staff members, all of whom have quit or been fired save, Alby and emul8or. We have been hacked at least 5 times that I can recall, have been sued or threatened to be sued 7 times, have had over a 1000 flames recieved, I gotta say I've had a ton of fun, I've gotten to talk with huge emulation giants, beta tested about a half dozen emulators, been blamed for the death of PSEMU, been able to watch a PSX emulator develope. Emualliance has had a dozen layout changes, it's been fun. No, we aren't being sold to emuhq.com ;-) Thanks for supporting the site, we had fun, I hope you have too. Now I get to thank everyone who made emualliance.com possible:
Alby (thanks pal), Sardaukar, expert, kalamaru, Zophar, Zeenbor, Atila(heh), hWnd, Jandaman, uzplayer, Jesse, khang (hackah ;-), rabidfrog, that girl from http://www.romseeker.com/girl/, skates, Lemmy, BWB, Dave, all the guys from #psemu, #emualliance, #ultrahlein, #zopharsdomain, _64bit_(lol), Weality Man, Darkmazda, Bomb, Havok, Shadowrye, Serial slayer, Shatteredge, Commando102, that band called the Smashing Pumpkins, all you rom lamers, Fox, NovaFlare, Gpfgod, Dtastones, and everyone I just forgot, including all past staff whom slipped my mind (theres about ten of em), all other emulation site runner guys, all my pals (and enemies from irc), anyone else I forgot, and you for coming...this is the end of EA.com, may the future hold good plans for her. Thanks again, its been fun *sniff*
NINTENDA thanks emualliance.com, wow this longer than I thought it'd be.

Please give EmuAlliance a last look and good luck to aby and Nintenda on their future work.

11/15/1999 - The 'Powers' That Be! [Posted by RpgRealm]

SMS Power has released Hokutonoken & Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble for the SMS. Zoop also had something to say about Hokutonoken:
Remember of that Hokutonoken Master System ROM that mysteriously appeared on the internet like one year ago? Well. It was actually a bad dump since the last boss was screwed and a few other things. Anyway we now got a good dump out of an alternate version of it. The title screen informations aren't the same in the two versions, and this one has a good last boss. Now, what is Hokutonoken? It was never released as-is outside of Japan, but if you give it a moment of play you will quickly recognize a very famous Master System game I bet you used to play a long time ago :-) So give it a try!

Also Genesis Power has released BioHazard Battle for the Sega Genesis, which is a good R-Type clone.

11/16/1999 - ZSNES .985 is released [Posted by DarkMazda]

Zsnes version .985 is finally released by the ZSNES TEAM!!! Here is what is new

  • Added some more speedups to the SA-1
  • SA-1: Fixed a branch problem with the BRL instruction
  • Implemented Save Ram support into netplay. Thanks to The Minder for help testing this!
  • Added a hack to get Mario Paint trainered rom with the trainer removed to work with the snes mouse instead of the keyboard/joystick
  • Prevented Joystick Keys/Buttons to be selected as the diagonal keys in the GUI
  • Fixed some crashing problems with the Modem Mode
  • Implemented a key combination editor in the GUI
  • Sped up V-Sync
  • Fixed an SA-1 memory map bug! Fixes DBZ:HD.
  • Added an small speed hack for DBZ:HD
  • Implemented SA-1 Super MMC
  • Finally, after many, many hours of hacking. Figured out what caused the odd noise sounds! So far, simulated noise is implemented since the true nature of how this noise is produced is unknown so it will sound somewhat off compared to the original sounds. There is also a slight chance that some sounds will become noise incorrectly and vice versa.
  • Fixed up Pitch Modulation
  • Fixed SNES Mouse/Super Scope support when Pl3/4 as Pl1/2 option is enabled
  • ADSR/GAIN overhaul (Sound DSP) :
  • Fixed several GAIN bugs
  • Implemented Increase Bentline/Decrease Exp GAIN modes properly
  • Rewrote Decay/Sustain modes in ADSR
  • Fixed a restarting ADSR bug
  • Removed Sound Buffering. I don't think it's worth losing the quality of the sound for a small amount of speed boost.
  • Implemented an option to disable the Noise Simulation for those games that aren't working properly because of it
  • Implemented Triple Buffering. You can enable this through the Video Options in the GUI. Unfortunately, Triple Buffering won't work with 2xSaI/Super Eagle engine at the moment since they rely on the previous screen for updating nor will it work properly with high resolution games in the old gfx engine. Thanks to GreenImp for patiently helping through testing!
  • Implemented Full Screen Interpolation
  • Implemented Cheat Code Reflector (See Guinotes.txt for details)
  • Any proper VESA 2 error messages now doesn't exit the program when in the GUI but instead display the error message in a box and allows the user to continue.
  • Thanks to Daniel for lending me his copier which helped me hack the SNES Sound Noise/ADSR stuff!
Please grab it from the SNES Emu Section Thanks goes to XiP from ZD For the news.

11/17/1999 - 3DOpen Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

3DOpens site has been updated with some news herei s the post

Well, I built enough of a shell to get my ARM CPU emulator to start executing the code from the 3DO ROM. Exciting? Well, a little, maybe, but since it does a lot of reading into and out of memory addresses, expecting either to find certain things, or make certain things happen, it doesn't get too far.

But, I'm trying to make some guesses and faking in things as I go. Some info on those custom co-processors and related support hardware sure would be helpful right about now...

Please visit the 3DOpen website :)

11/19/1999 - MacMAME version .36 b9.1 is released [Posted by DarkMazda]

MacMAME version .36 b9.1 is released! Here is what is new

  • - Many bug fixes to the reporting and audit code. [John Butler]
  • - You can now force 16-bit color for all games via a new checkbox in the video tab of the front-end. Note that doing so for games which use less than 256 colors will most likely cause a speed hit. Games which require 16-bit color will use 16-bit color regardless of the setting. [Brad Oliver]
  • - Added extremely tacky workaround for bugs in the ATi RAVE drivers in MacOS 9 and/or OpenGL 1.1.2. {Brad Oliver]
  • - Added keyboard shortcut for grabbing screenshots - Command-G. Thanks for George Warner for the suggestion. [Brad Oliver]
  • - Synced in some MESS-specific changes. [Dennis Munsie]

Thanx to the new infatuation (?) for PC Engine ISOs, some new isos are found playable under Hu-Go!. Futhermore thanx to Cds sent by people (when postmen are clever enough to carry them correctly :), compatibility should slowly increase. Check all of this here.

Another release should take place next week with a basic gui support which should allow to test skins. Some bugs will be removed (No more pb with direct CD launching that were requiring to select a rom, and less troubles when using Seal driver) and iso support slightly improved.

11/19/1999 - 4 dmd staffers off list.. [Posted by DarkMazda]

yes, i have removed 4 staffers from the staff list.. I only fired 1 doh out of the 4.. ProtoCat and spkleader has a reason to get off DMD. Protocat says he just has to take these class just suddenly popped up and he is busy, and spkleader will have a reason soon which i already konw about and everyone else doesn't :) Omega says he will update but he hasn't for a LONG TIME and so is RpgRealm cuz he says he is busy. I mean i just can't take this anymore.. do you see this?? without counting this update, I have done about 18 updates out of 19. not posts, update on some subject.. homt is doing great on his side and c003y, which i've talked to alot, is not making an emulator but a rom for dmd at this time :) So.. You guys have to understand something, being a staff member is hard and time consuming, and I know that. But it really pisses me off when they say "I WILL UPDATE EVERYDAY!!" "I WILL BE THE BEST STAFF MEMBER" and that kinda bullshit i get every time. Because if i give them a chance, they don't do SHIT! and im really pissed off about this. Zophar should know what I am talking about and any other webmaster out there. the staffers should know what the webmasters are going through to do updates and setting up the page and everything and I think they just take advantage of that. If you want to become a dmd staffer, i would love it but if its that kinda bullshit crap, don't even try cuz im not putting it up with it.

11/20/1999 - Dream64 updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Dream64 website has been updated with some news!

Sorry, I know it's been a long time since the last update, but things have been very busy. We've been working our arses off on getting a release out, but that's been unsuccessful. Anyways we have enough opcodes done in order for demos to work, but we have a VI error. Whenever we check the VI Regs, the values are 000000 always and we have had no luck fixing it. I'm sure it's just a matter of time until it works, but keep your hopes up, a release is near.

Please visit Dream64 for more info. I am at work and i won't be back until 7PM EST :( but $$ :)

11/20/1999 - MAME .36b10 is released! [Posted by DarkMazda]

MAME .36b10 is released! Here is what is new
New games supported:
--------------------

  • Pong (this game has no ROMs) [Juergen Buchmueller]
  • I, Robot (suggestion: turn off autoframeskip) [Dan Boris, John Dickson]
  • Baraduke [Manuel Abadia]
  • Metro-Cross [Manuel Abadia]
  • Flak Attack [Manuel Abadia]
  • D-Con [Bryan McPhail]
  • Dr. Toppel Tankentai [Quench]
  • Double Dragon 3 [Carlos A. Lozano, Richard Bush, Bryan McPhail]
  • Combatribes [Carlos A. Lozano, Richard Bush, Bryan McPhail]
  • Dynamite Duke (play it with sound disabled) [Bryan McPhail]

New clones supported:
---------------------
  • Frogger (Konami)
  • Spaltan X (= Kung Fu Master)
  • Joyful Road (= Munch Mobile)
  • Majuu no Ohkoku (= Devil World)
  • Rock 'n Rope (Konami)
  • Samurai (set 2)
  • Kaiketsu Yanchamaru (= Kid Niki)

These drivers have improved GRAPHICS:
-------------------------------------
  • - Fixed lots of drivers for -depth 16 support. [Zsolt Vasvari]
These drivers have new or improved SOUND:
-----------------------------------------
  • - Fixed music in cworld2j [CAB]
Other drivers changes:
----------------------
  • - Fixed Go Go Mr. Yamaguchi [Takahiro Nogi]
  • - Fixed controls in Ikari III level 2. [Nicola Salmoria]
  • - Fixed hangs in TNZS. [Quench]
Changes to the main program:
----------------------------
  • - [DOS] Adjusted the autoframeskip code, to make it increase frameskip a little faster, but not as fast as it was before the previous change. Let's see how this performs. [Nicola Salmoria]
  • - Support for gzipped (NOT zipped) cheat files. Uncompressed files still work.
  • [Mathis Rosenhauer]

Source:
-------
  • - Merged the flags and orientation fields of struct GameDriver.
  • - Removed prom_memory_region from struct GameDriver. The PROM memory region is now specified directly in the ROM declaration, with ROM_REGIONX( length, REGION_PROMS ) Similarly, REGION_GFX1..8 are defined for gfx decoding, but drivers have not been updated to use them. See drivers/namcos86.c for the only example.
  • - Removed samplenames from stuct GameDriver. It is now in struct SamplesInterface, and some drivers load the samples directly without using that structure. Due to this change, -listsamples and -verifysamples, and the samples information in -listinfo, are no longer available. Actually, samples might not be working at all - I haven't tested them. [Nicola Salmoria]
  • - Removed base and size from struct MemoryReadAddress, use MemoryWriteAddress to store the pointers. Several drivers had the bad habit of using MemoryReadAddress to initialize those variables, hopefully I haven't broken any while updating them. [Nicola Salmoria]

PLease download from the MAME Emu Section geezez these mame people are on fire

I can't call it MAME because I made some changes. Therefore, it's called "Working MAME". This is an unofficial derivative version of MAME. Tststs... my MS compiler screwed it... that's what you call 'optimizations', Bill? Well, the ChangeDisplaySettings() func worked much faster in version 1.24... of course, because it didn't change any desktop settings at all.

Yeah, I didn't notice that bug (I don't use the 'change desktop settings' option very often, and because I didn't touch a line of code in that function, I never thought to test it). Well, thanks to all who reported me that issue, it's fixed.

11/23/1999 - RomCenter updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

It looks like RomCenter has been updated with some news ! Here is the post

It seems that in certain case, some roms can be deleted during repairing. So, until a new version is released, don't repair your roms. (Or backup them before).

This problem occurs when using smartlist (ex: neogeo only), and doing a
repair on a directory with neogeo AND OTHER MAME ROMS. The non neogeo roms
are deleted, even if you specified 'ignore unknown files'.

It will be fixed in the next release.

Please visit RomCenter for more info

11/23/1999 - VirtualBoy Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Virtual Boy website has been updated as well.. here is the post

11/22/99 - NEW!!! I decided to post the beta of my new VB programming document, to view it you will need Word 97 or the Word 97 viewer available from Microsoft. This is about 80% of the way done, most of the info is in place, it just needs to be polished a bit. If you see any errors, please email me and I will correct them. On top of the missing sections noted in '()'s Im also hoping to add a section on coding for the real VB, once I figure out the details. The pages are formatted a little weird, I'm trying to set it up so you can print it as a booklet.

Found some more patents, and there are even more on the way. Im planing on doing an exhaustive patent search based on the names of the Inventors listed in the existing VB patents. It looks like Nintendo has cranked out about 25 different patents in the US alone, for the VB.

Work continues on the programming document, I have most of the CPU section done. Al that is missing, is the bit string summary, Interrupts & Exceptions and a detailed description of each instruction. Im working hard to finish this up, so I can release it soon. On this subject does any one know of an easy way to convert a Microsoft Word document to a PDF format?

Please visit VirtualBoy website for more info

11/25/1999 - Hu-Go Updates! [Posted by DarkMazda]

Hu-GO website has been updated! here is the post

I can give some details about next release. It will happen friday or saturday depending on the time I'll need to update docs. The follwing version will still be a beta one.

It will include a 'minimum bios emu' mode which will reenable some games that lose their compatibility from version 0.98 (I'm thinking of Doraemon and Buster Bros mainly, La valeur, maybe others...). In .HCD files, I should have included an option for default directory of ISO/MP3 that will reduce .HCD creation when using long paths. I should also add a patch option in .HCD in order to 'help' some isos working ( Golden axe 2, and human sport festival among others ...). Size of MP3 should also be known using tormod Tjaberg's work which should make better CD structure guessing with only ISO and MP3.

Cadash US is now working when decoding it as an US coded card and HCD are recongnized in the file selector. I've updated the compatility list with improvement of the release to come...

11/25/1999 - Korea is going to take 40% of the DRAM Market. [Posted by DarkMazda]

It looks like Korea is going to get 40% of the DRAM market.. or more like buy. Here is the post from The Register

Hyundai and Samsung are expected to increase their share of the DRAM market to over 20 per cent each this year -- equating to about Ł2.7 billion. News of the Korean companies boosted status comes at the same time as a merger between Japanese chipmakers NEC and Hitachi.

This link-up will give the combined company 15 per cent of the market, but is not expected to make any noticeable difference to the industry. The two companies do not plan to increase production investment.

The Big Four -- Samsung, Hyundai, Micron Technology and NEC-Hitachi -- now share 70 per cent of the world market for memory. ®
